My husband has been going through at-home training, so he was home today and we were able to go on a romantic little date downtown. We stopped to pick up our CSA share for the week, leisurely strolled the aisles of Whole Foods, and he even patiently waited for me to shop through Ulta! When I’m going out on an occasion like this, I like to do a “No Makeup” Makeup Look. Let me explain…men can’t always tell when you’re wearing makeup, so the point is to have the makeup be there but naturally enhance your features so it actually looks like you’re wearing very little. I give my eyes a very natural looking contour and glow on the eyelid, my cheeks are contoured with bronzer, and my lips get a naturally nude gloss. (more…)

Today was just one of those Monday’s where I felt like I was completely exhausted from the really busy weekend. I woke up and looked in the mirror, saw my tired-looking eyes and sallow skin and thought to myself, “How can I perk my face up today?” Fake it until you make it, right? This Maybelline Color Whisper Lipstick in Ravishing Pink seemed to do the trick for me. It’s a really beautiful pastel pink shade that looks glossy on your lips, so the light seems to just be drawn to your face. Last week, I swatched the brand new Maybelline Summer 2013 Color Tattoo Eyeshadows, and I received a lot of requests to actually put them into action and do a makeup look with them! I certainly don’t blame all the requests…these eyeshadow shades are absolutely gorgeous and very unique with their metallic and duo-chrome effect. Today, I have a look using Seashore Frosts, which was actually my favorite one of the bunch because it has such a unique duo-chrome shimmer effect to it. I had been hearing how amazing these new Maybelline Summer 2013 Color Tattoo Eyeshadows were, but then I saw swatches of them on a friend’s blog, New Shine Beauty, and it was all over for me! I mustered up enough energy, even just getting over being sick, and trekked it to Rite Aid, where these were buy one, get one 50% off. It’s a purple explosion! The past few days I’ve been talking a lot about purple lipstick and purple lip gloss, and I know it can be intimidating to some. I wanted to put together a little look for you on just one way that I would wear purple lips. I just want to say that it was a total coincidence that I ended up with matching eye makeup as I just wanted to get some use out of my BH Cosmetics Hollywood Palette, and it happened to contain a gorgeous matte purple shade. I was so excited for this dupe that I drove around town like a crazy woman early this morning trying to find this gloss! Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Gloss in “Mirrored Plum” is supposedly a great dupe for MAC Cosmetics “Heroine” Lipglass. While I don’t personally own “Heroine,” partly because it’s always sold out and sells too quickly, I have seen swatches of these side-by-side elsewhere online and they are very close. This particular Color Sensational Lip Gloss is part of Maybelline’s limited edition collection for spring. It took me three drugstores to find the display carrying this, but it was well worth it.
