There are so many nail applique brands on the market now, it’s hard to choose which one you want to purchase when you get into the drugstore! Once upon a time, there was no such thing as “nail stickers” that cover your entire nails, could be applied in less than fifteen minutes, and have intricate and often beautiful designs. Maybelline Color Show Nail Stickers are a fairly new product, and with their introduction of this limited edition collection, they have some pretty amazing designs available. Midnight Lace, the one I am reviewing in this post is an intricate black and grey lace design with gold and silver studs. I put them to the test and took plenty of pictures along the way.
Midnight Lace is right up my alley in terms of style. I love black, I love anything with studs, and I love glamorous designs. This design manages to be trendy, sexy, sophisticated, and edgy all at the same time.
Inside the kit you get a mini nail-file, and a tool that allows you to push your cuticles back, as well as press the sticker down onto your nail. I saved both after I was done using the kit for future use in my manicure kit.
There is also an extra metallic sheet inside, which, I don’t know if it is intentionally in there for this purpose, but I used it to stick the parts of the sticker I filed off. It was nice not to have a mess of leftover nail stickers in front of me to clean up.
Since they provide you with 18 nail stickers inside the package, you don’t have to worry about finding one that doesn’t match your nail size. You simply choose a sticker that matches your nail width and size, peel it off like a sticker, and lay the edge down by your cuticle. Using your fingers or the stick provided, press down from the center, being sure to use firm pressure. Then, simply file away the excess sticker that is hanging over your nail with the nail file. It’s easy as pie and there is absolutely no drying time or smudges!
It only took me fifteen minutes to apply these to all ten of my fingers, and I actually did it in bed! After working with the product, here is what I noticed:
Pro’s:
- Easy to peel and extremely sticky
- Many different sizes to match different finger nails
- You can unpeel a sticker if you mess up
- No bumps or bubbles in the stickers
- No drying time or smudges
- Very fast way to get an intricate manicure design
Con’s:
- Some of the nail stickers fit the width of my nail around my cuticle area, but not my entire nail as I got closer to the tip. You may notice a tiny gap in this case as I had on some of my nails. On others, the tip fit well, and the cuticle area was too wide. Every person has a unique width and shape to their fingernails, so this is not a product flaw per se, but rather a testament to the natural differences in our features.
- When filing the excess sticker away, you may be left with some rugged or imperfect edges left at the tips of your nails (which you can see in the close up, up above). You may have to go back and file those off and fix up the rough edges a little bit if you’re very picky.
Overall: I love these. I think they apply just as well as any other nail applique brand I’ve used in the past, but these have incredible patterns and intricate designs. Application is fast and non-messy. You could even apply these in the car, on the train, or on an airplane if you were in a rush! The other limited edition designs are just as gorgeous as well. They now have these and many more set along with the Sally Hansen stickers at the Dollar Tree! Also with the left over sticker part. I save that and use a very tiny craft punch in a cute shape like a heart, animal or flower and punch out the shape from the left over bit of sticker and use them on colored painted nails. I always use a top coat even on full stickered nails.
