I excitedly purchased this one item from the new MAC Divine Night Holiday 2013 Collection, and I received it this afternoon, right before I was off to the state fair we have here every October. I really wanted to wear this lipstick to the fair because it’s very autumn-inspired and I love how flattering it is. I ended up wearing it out to the fair, so I didn’t get perfect pictures of the lipstick before it was touched. It was such a fun night of eating fair food (pizza and funnel cake!) and riding the fair rides. Full swatches of Private Party inside,
So again, I usually take pictures of my lipsticks before I ever touch them or wear them, but I just couldn’t resist wearing this one as soon as I ripped it out of the packaging. The only difference between the holiday packaging and the regular packaging, at least for these lipsticks, is that they have a gold finish instead of the usual silver finish.
Private Party is described as a “dirty plum mauve” by MAC and I think that description is perfect. It has tones of plum and violet in it, and it definitely leans on the cool side. That being said, I do think this is a flattering color for many skin tones, from very pale to dark. For reference, I am an NC20-25 in MAC, and it manages to look like a neutral mauve-plum on my lips. The color sits right in between light and dark, so if you’re afraid of really dark, vampy lip colors, this is a great pick for you.
I just love this shade. It has that dirty, dusty purple tone to it that allows it to be worn with a variety of makeup looks. I put some brown shimmer eyeshadow on, applied mascara, and contoured my cheeks with bronzer while wearing this shade tonight.
It’s perfect for the holiday season, too. It has a very festive look to it that would be perfect for wearing around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Again, I think the main thing I like about this shade is that it can be worn using a lighter hand so that it looks less intense, or built up to look a little darker and more bold. Whether you apply it heavily or lightly, it still isn’t an overwhelmingly dark shade that is intimidating.
The MAC Cosmetics Divine Night Holiday 2013 Collection is limited edition and available at MAC counters nationwide, as well as online at MAC’s website. Each lipstick retails for $16.50 USD. Private Party is sold out online, but there’s probably a good chance of you finding it at your local MAC store or counter!

I am in love with this color. It looks gorgeous on you. I wonder if there is a drugstore dupe for this.
