Lookbook: MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam Gaga II Lipstick Swatches

MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam Gaga II was released recently, and is the second lip color to be released by MAC in honor of Lady Gaga, and the MAC AIDS Fund. 100% of proceeds go to their MAC AIDS Fund, making this a feel-good purchase, knowing you are donating to a great cause. Viva Glam Gaga II comes in both lipglass and lipstick form, and we decided to go with the lipstick so we would have longer wear-time with this shade. To see photographs and swatches of this gorgeous nude lipstick,

Viva Glam Gaga II a beige-nude amplified creme lipstick. The color leans more on the brown nude side than pink, such as with MAC Cosmetics “Blankety” lipstick. This is the nude lipstick you pull out and apply for a truly blank, nude lip with no hints of any other color but brown to it.

The lipstick applies smoothly, has good pigment, and gives off a brown nude shade with the slightest bit of sheen.

The above photographs were taken in artificial lighting. This shade looks somewhat different in natural lighting…

The formula was great – it glided onto my lips without any problems and didn’t feel drying. The shade is gorgeous, but I do have a couple of thoughts on this lipstick. First, it is most definitely an acquired color. Not everyone is going to dig this shade, and not everyone is going to be able to wear this shade without looking either completely washed out, or like they rubbed concealer all over their lips. My second thought is that you must have very well prepped lips in order to wear this because of its opacity and milkiness. As you can see in my first photograph in natural lighting, you can see my natural lip color peeking through at the corners of mouth and the inside of my lips. In my opinion, this can look a little funny…and unnatural. The second photograph (the one directly above this paragraph) shows how it looks when it is blended better, and it looks much more wearable.

The above photograph shows MAC “Blankety” Lipstick on the left column, and on the right, MAC “Viva Glam Gaga II.” You can see how there are strong pink undertones in Blankety, and very strong pure brown-beige pigments in Viva Glam Gaga II. I personally think Blankety looks better against the olive in my skin, but I have been using Viva Glam Gaga II layered, with other lipsticks and lip glosses. It is a beautiful, pure nude shade that is a great addition to any collection for this reason.

This shade definitely looks different on everyone, especially after seeing Lady Gaga in her advertisement for this lipstick, and various other swatches on beauty blogs.

MAC Cosmetics Viva Glam Gaga II is available in lipstick and lipglass, with 100% of proceeds going to the MAC AIDS Fund. This lip color is available at MAC counters nationwide as well as at MAC Cosmetics Online.
