I promised I would do a makeup look with my brand new Younique Mineral Pigments, so here is my look using Heart Broken. Ironically, I started using this pigment for my look because it’s opposite my eye color on a color wheel, and it makes my eye color pop like crazy. As I was doing the look, it kept reminding me of something I had seen before that I loved, either in a magazine or on the red carpet. It dawned on me that Kristen Stewart wore a STUNNING burgundy eye on the red carpet to the Met Gala, and it’s basically my all-time favorite makeup look and picture set of her ever. It was highly praised, since Kristen Stewart is typically very tomboyish and wears very little makeup. It highlighted her green eyes like crazy, and it was sort-of “punk rock glamorous.” I realized that this was basically subconsciously inspired by that red carpet look, so inside, I’ve included a side-by-side picture of that look and my look together. Full details and products used inside!
Heart Broken is a metallic burgundy shade that just lights up on your eyes. This is the ideal shade for someone with blue or green eyes. If you want your eyes to look lighter and brighter, this will do it. My eyes are already light as it is, so when I wear a shade like this, my eyes start to look super day-glow bright blue-green. It’s an intense look, but it stays sophisticated and is perfect for a night out.
I purposely made sure this look was very easy so that anyone can recreate it. I applied a light matte brown shade into the crease of my eyes for a touch of definition. I wet my makeup brush and applied Heart Broken on my entire eyelid up to the crease, as well as the inner corners of my eyes, and along the lower lash-line. To blend out any harsh edges, go back with your light matte brown shade and blend very lightly around the crease and inner corners again. I applied the blackest eyeliner I own (Urban Decay’s “Perversion”) along my lower water-line and I tight-lined my upper lash-line with it as well. I applied a thin line of black gel eyeliner (Inglot AMC Gel Liner #77), and winged it out. Curl your lashes, apply mascara, and add falsies if you’d like. I added them for this look since I knew I would be photographing it. The black really pops against the burgundy shade, and if you’ve got blue or green eyes, the liner and the eyelid color are going to make your eyes look amazing.
I kept the rest of the face very neutral. I applied bronzer (Tarte’s “Hotel Heiress”) to my cheekbones and added highlighter above my cheekbones (MAC’s “Perfect Topping” Mineralize Skinfinish). I topped it off with a pale, beige-nude lip (Covergirl’s “Delish”). The focus is on the eyes here, and keeping the rest of the face bronzed, neutral, and glowing just adds to the intensity of the eyes.
And…the look I finally realized I was basing this off of…Kristen Stewart at the Met Gala:
It’s probably my favorite Kristen Stewart look, since it manages to be both edgy and sexy at the same time. It also plays up her eye color like crazy, and her otherwise neutral, pale skin helps the look stand out. I absolutely love the Younique “Heart Broken” Mineral Pigment. It’s super rich in pigmentation, and it applies wonderfully.
