I am a huge believer in taking care of your skin as a priority. Your skin is your canvas for makeup, and without taking care of it, makeup can look muddy, uneven, and just plain unsightly. My skincare has changed over the years throughout my twenties. In my early twenties, it was more about oil control and taking care of blemishes. While I still get the occasional blemish and I do have oily skin, I try to keep my skin as hydrated as possible, because hydrated, moisturized skin means less wrinkles and fine lines (something you actually think about when approaching thirty). It’s also important to keep your skin hydrated if you have oily skin, as very dry skin can cause your body to create more sebum, making you look even more oily. The balance act that is keeping your skin hydrated throughout the seasons can be tricky, especially if you use anti-aging and stronger products on your face like I do on a weekly basis. I feel like I have finally found my “holy grail” moisturizing booster that keeps the skin on my face from flaking and looking dry and dull: Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster.

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster contains Hyaluronic Acid, Panthenol, Glycolipids, and Algae Extract, all of which help to restore the moisture balance on your skin. There is no artificial fragrance or color in this product, so it’s great for sensitive skin. This is hands down one of the first moisturizing products I’ve used that actually continues working even after I’ve initially applied it. There is an instant boost of hydration once you directly apply it, but I can actually notice a difference in my skin throughout the week, as well. It’s really a product that seems to do the whole hydration “balancing act” for you without much thought or the use of multiple products.
You use the product as you would a moisturizer, except it comes out of the bottle in a small dropper applicator. You only need a few drops, anywhere from 2-4 per use. The product feels like a mix between a serum and a gel, and it feels ultra lightweight on your skin. Where you apply the product is really going to be dependent upon where your skin needs the moisturizing boost the most. Every week, I give myself an “at-home spa facial” with various products, one of which is a 10% Glycolic Acid cream. While it makes my skin look amazing after using it (and yes, the Glycolic Acid burns), it dries out my skin very easily because it is so strong. Usually the next day, I have a lot of peeling skin around the apples of my cheeks, my nose, forehead, and chin. I make sure to apply the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster after I use my 10% Glycolic Acid. It soothes my skin and absorbs fast, but most importantly, it keeps my skin from peeling. If you’ve ever experienced skin peeling on your face, you know that it looks unsightly and makeup does NOT play well with it.
You can see the drops of product on my hand above. The product really is so lightweight and a little bit goes a long way. I’ve had this product for awhile now, and I still have only used about half the container, which is 1 fl oz. It’s important to me that my skincare products go a long way, especially if I really take a liking to them like this one. By focusing this product on my nose, cheeks, forehead, and chin, I keep my skin from peeling when using my 10% Glycolic Acid, and it also makes my skin glow. I’ve also noticed that my skin has a younger, more youthful appearance to it in general. Again, hydrated skin is always much less likely to wrinkle, so keeping it moisturized is key.
