I have had these new Burt’s Bees Lipsticks for about a month now. I’ve been a long time fan of their classic lip balm, which I’ve been using since I was a teenager. Their line of products has expanded greatly since then, with everything from skin care to tinted lip balms. Their latest product line is lipstick! Now, if you’ve been reading my blog for a long time, you know I have a lipstick obsession. I own more lipstick and lip colors than any other makeup product in my collection. I consider myself to be a bit of a “lipstick expert” as a result. I’ve tried practically every formulation and brand there is. I was particularly curious about these because of Burt’s Bees reputation as a more natural, wholesome brand with more subtle makeup formulations.
Left to right: Suede Splash, Magenta Rush, and Ruby Ripple.
The packaging on these is clever and unique. I love the little etched honeycombs on the sides, and they look chic for a drugstore lipstick.
Suede Splash is a brown-based nude. When the light hits it, it doesn’t look too dark or too brown, but in artificial lighting, it can take on a very “natural lip-tone” shade. This was the first one I tried and I was shocked at how pigmented it was. The most noticeable trait of the formula is how hydrating these feel. They are pigmented like an opaque lipstick, but glide on like butter and feel like a lip balm in terms of moisture. This is a great everyday lip shade, especially if you work in a more conservative environment.
Magenta Rush is a hot fuchsia pink. This one is so beautiful for a drugstore lipstick. You don’t find many great hot pink lipsticks at the drugstore. This one is opaque and rich in color, but there is almost a sheerness to it that keeps it looking youthful and not cakey looking. I really like this one for layering, since you can wear it lighter or heavier depending on your preferences.
Ruby Ripple is your classic cherry red. This is another stunning color that will be universally flattering on anyone. Though very pigmented, this one also has a sheerness to it that makes it perfect for layering. You can swipe it once for just-bitten color or layer it on for a very opaque look. I also found this shade to be incredibly even for a red. Many red lipsticks apply patchy and uneven and this one was perfection.
Overall, my opinion on these lipsticks remains positive. I’ve been wearing them often because they are so hydrating on my lips. They actually seem to repair my chapped lips while also providing color for them.
The Burt’s Bees Lipsticks are available at Ulta stores, drugstores, and mass retailers nationwide. Each lipstick retails for just $8.99USD. You can browse the other shades or purchase them online here.
