Yesterday was one of those days where I felt like I just needed to get out of the house to browse the stores in the mall, even if I didn’t purchase anything. My husband has been out of town for six days, and I’ve resorted to having conversations with my dogs, so I enjoyed simply smelling the fresh air and really taking my time around my favorite store, Sephora. I came upon the Benefit Cosmetics section, which, by the way, always has the cutest display, and Fake Up Concealer caught my eye. I’ve been hearing rave reviews of this product, and trust me when I say that I need a concealer that is hydrating and won’t settle into fine lines, especially my under-eye area. Inside, I’ve also got the winner of the Pinch Minimergency Kit Giveaway!
Congratulations Patti Wilder! Please contact me within 48 hours at Rebecca@beautygala.com! Thank you to everyone who entered the contest, and trust me, I have some really fun giveaway’s planned for this month!
I love the packaging, but then again, all of Benefit’s packaging and product names are always so adorable and cheeky. I went with 01 – Light, because even though I typically go for a medium concealer, I was hoping this would bring light to my under-eye area. Plus, I tested it in the store, and it didn’t seem too light for my skin tone.
The packaging actually looks exactly like a lipstick! I was curious to peek inside and see what the actual concealer looked like…
So the actual concealer is in the middle of the stick, and it is surrounded by a clear part which is composed of anti-crease control ingredients, such as Vitamin E and apple seed extract. The idea is that when you apply it, you get a little bit of both parts and they mix together to create an ultra long-lasting, crease resistant, smooth concealer.
Talk about CREAMY! I was wooed by the creaminess of this concealer off the bat. It feels like you’re working with lip balm as it glides on like butter and feels so smooth. What I also noticed is that a little bit goes a long way with this concealer and you really only need one swipe to put down good coverage.
Blended out, this concealer looks flawless. You can see how it brings light to the area on my hand where I blended it out, and you can barely even tell I have anything on my skin. It is lightweight and super silky. I kept feeling the back of my hand because it was so smooth and silky!
So I don’t have terrible dark circles, but they are there, and I could definitely use some light in that area to make me look well-rested. I also tend to get bags under my eyes if I haven’t been sleeping enough, which I definitely have not been this week. You can see above in my “Before” picture that I have some puffiness under my eyes that I really, really don’t want concealer to settle in to. So I put Fake Up to the test!
I applied the product straight from the tube and lightly used my ring fingers to blend and pat the product out.
My eye area looked instantly more refreshed. I look less tired and my dark circles were covered up. Most importantly, the product actually seemed to smooth the area of my under-eye out, and it definitely didn’t settle into any fine lines or puffiness. Dare I say that my under-eye area felt like a baby’s bottom?
I kept this concealer on for over eight hours. I wanted to really test the wear of it, because sometimes concealer doesn’t crease right away, but after many hours it’ll settle into your lines and look awful. Even after almost ten hours of wear, my under-eye area still felt smooth like I had applied an under-eye primer to it. The concealer didn’t budge, and I didn’t have to set it with anything. The effect is very natural looking.
Overall: If you’re looking for a concealer that will stay smooth and not settle into your fine lines, this is it. Many before have made this claim, but this concealer is the real deal. As the Sephora employee who raved about it said, “You will want to walk around all day feeling your under-eye area because it’s so smooth.” The effect is camouflaging, but natural.
Benefit Fake Up Concealer is available in Light, Medium, and Dark. It retails for $24.00 USD and can be purchased at Benefit counters nationwide, as well as Ulta and Sephora stores nationwide. You can also browse and purchase this online at Sephora.
