I always like to show a makeup look when I review and swatch an eyeshadow palette because swatching a product and actually putting it to use can be two totally different experiences. In this case, I was actually a little surprised with how difficult it was to blend the eyeshadow in the palettes and make it look even. The palettes are pigmented but a tiny bit patchy, and you really have to work with your brushes to get an even look. Inside I show you two looks you can do using each of these palettes.
The Dutchess Lounge Palette (click that link for my swatches) contains mostly dark, shimmering shades alongside of a silver and purple shade. I was going for a very dark eye, by applying the gorgeous bottom left shade in the palette over my entire eyelid. This shade actually applied beautifully and even to my eyelid with little to no fallout, which was incredible. The matte purple in the middle of the palette, however, proved to give me some problems when I applied it to the crease area of my eye. I had to really build the color up and make sure it wasn’t patchy in some spots of my crease, so it took a little extra work with my brush. I applied the matte purple shade to my lower lash-line, as well. Inside the corners of my inner eye, I applied the metallic silver for a pop of light. I applied black eyeliner to my upper and lower lash-line, and added some eyelashes for major drama. The overall effect is smokey and dramatic, but has that modern sparkle to it.
I really liked how the look turned out with Dutchess Lounge. It’s a little twist on the typical smokey eye (light on the eyelid, dark in the crease), and it really made my eye color pop. The sparkle in the lid shade is really reflective and beautiful in person, too.
The Desert Festival Palette (again, click link for swatches) was also a tad difficult to blend and work with. I used the lower left shade in the palette over my entire eyelid which had great pigmentation and was soft and smooth. Then, I applied the brighter matte coral shade in the upper right of the palette to my crease. To top it all off, I applied the middle matte brown shade to my entire crease and blended it out. Of course, I also added black cat-liner and super dramatic false lashes. I purchased the lashes from eBay and I really, really don’t like them. I’m all for dramatic lashes, but these gave me major problems with fitting to the curve of my lash-line and staying put. Since my eBay lash disaster obviously has nothing to do with Wet n Wild, I’ll say that again, with a little blending work, this palette can create a pretty, neutral look.
The orange-coral shades in this palette really make blue or green eyes stand out like no other. If you’ve got blue or green eyes, this is going to make your peepers stand out like crazy. These are some of my favorite colors to wear on a regular, everyday basis.
Overall: If you don’t mind doing a little extra blending with your brushes, especially for the matte shades, you’ll be able to create great eye looks with these palettes. The palettes are pigmented and only cost $4.99 USD, so your investment is also not steep at all.
