We finally have a gorgeous, brand new Sephora store right near where I live and the grand opening was on Friday. Of course I felt like if I didn’t go I would be missing something, especially since I had been anticipating the store opening for months now. I gladly went inside and tested all of the beauty products I’ve wanted to see in person, and one of the goodies I came home with was the Too Faced Summer Eye Palette. My friend and extremely talented beauty blogger, Jacqueline, from A Brilliant Brunette has been raving about this palette and after seeing it in person, I had to make it mine. The assortment of colors inside is just as gorgeous as the outside packaging, and the colors remind me of being in Hawaii…turquoise sea’s, glimmering bronze sand, and coral sunsets. To see plenty of photographs and swatches,
The first thing that spoke to me about this palette was the color assortment. Not only is the packaging really colorful, bright, and full of gorgeous beach-inspired decor, the shades are the epitome of summer colors. We see bright mermaid blue-green, coral, and neutral browns both outside and inside.
Inside, there was a small sample of their “Shadow Insurance” eyeshadow primer, which is genius. Their eyeshadow primer is still a favorite of mine to this day, and I highly recommend it.
Inside the palette are six smaller eyeshadow shades and three larger shades on the left side. Another cool thing about this palette is that it comes with little instructional cards that you can pull out from the top of the palette. Each of the cards has an eye look on it with detailed instructions on what shades to use and where to apply them.
It’s a really helpful idea for makeup beginners, as well as when you’re just not feeling like you are in a creative mood and need a boost.
How pretty are the colors in this palette? I’m obsessed! Let’s look at swatches…
Sugar Sand is a really pretty shimmering pink shade that is great for the inner corners of your eyes or as a brow highlight. Peach Fuzz and Sunbeam are not pigmented but have a gorgeous shimmery/glittery effect when applied. I imagine that these would be gorgeous when applied over top of the eyelid, or as a brow highlight because of the sparkle effect they have. They really look stunning in pure sunlight or bright light.
Plumeria is a bright bubblegum pink shimmer and Cocoa Beach is a light chocolate brown with gold sparkles. One thing that I love about Too Faced is that their shimmer/glitter eyeshadow is not just an over-spray like you see with MAC, meaning it won’t be gone once you swipe it once or twice, it is actually part of the entire eyeshadow.
Coral Crush is a bright tangerine-coral shade with gold sparkle. Chocolate Sun is a dark brown with gold sparkle.
Mermaid is a gorgeous blue-green shimmer that reflects differently depending on the light. Toasted Coconut is a medium matte brown.
Overall: Every shade in this palette is pigmented and rich in color with the exception of “Peach Fuzz” and “Sunbeam,” which contain gold sparkle, meant for using as a “top coat” for your eyeshadow or a highlight. The gold sparkle in the eyeshadow is not just an over-spray and will actually last you through the entire product, rather than just one or two applications. The colors are apropos for summer and are very beach worthy!
