Summer 2011 Lookbook: Maybelline “The Brightside” ExpertWear Eyeshadow Palette

Holy gorgeousness! This Maybelline ExpertWear Eyeshadow Palette in “The Brightside” caught my eye in a flash at Ulta. For starters, I love browsing the drugstore/less expensive aisles of Ulta because they have some really fantastic displays up at all times with the latest collections. Maybelline had an entire display out for summer 2011, and it was composed of bright, vibrant colors for the upcoming hot season. I was very surprised and impressed to see Maybelline release such a bright color palette, but even more so, intrigued by the quality, since I typically love Maybelline eyeshadow (their EyeStudio quad’s are the best drugstore eyeshadows ever). To see photographs, swatches, and a review of this palette,

The Brightside is a limited edition 8 eyeshadow palette containing both bright and pastel shades for the spring and summer. The eyeshadows come in three finishes: matte, shimmer, and high-pearl, so there is something for your preference. The eyeshadow shades range in color from pastel baby blue to shades of green, yellow, and coral.

These also come with two sponge applicators, which I typically wouldn’t use unless I had to. However, I actually love Maybelline’s pointy sponge tip applicator (the top one in the above photograph) because its perfect for grabbing eyeshadow and placing it along the upper or lower lash line. I often use their pointy sponge applicators to apply a pop of color to my lower lash line.

The Top Row of Colors: high pearl pastel baby blue, high pearl mint green, matte coral, and a shimmer mossy green. Each one of these shades were soft, velvety, and applied smoothly. They were all highly pigmented, and I was impressed with the amount of color each one gave off. The only one that was slightly powdery was the matte coral shade. It was very pigmented and applied well, but it has a different texture than the shimmer and high-pearl eyeshadows, so I was a little thrown off at first.

The Bottom Row of Colors: high-pearl champagne yellow, high-pearl coral, shimmer bright yellow, shimmer bright blue. Oddly enough, the last 2 colors, the bright yellow and blue, look matte in the actual palette, but they have a very fine micro-shimmer in them. They are absolutely beautiful with their opaque, vivid pigment. It’s safe to say that the first 2 shades in the bottom row would make an absolutely gorgeous sunset-inspired eye look, as well. Each eyeshadow, again, had great texture and applied with good pigmentation.

Maybelline’s “The Brightside” ExpertWear Eyeshadow Palette is limited edition for Spring/Summer 2011, and is available at drugstores and mass retailers (i.e, Ulta, Target) nationwide. I paid just under $7 for this palette, making it a definite beauty bargain in my opinion. The quality is great, the pigmentation is strong, and the shades are beautiful and vivid.
