Yesterday was my lucky day, as I was strolling through Ulta midday and noticed all their brand new releases being stocked on the shelves. Apparently I had come during their update, so it was perfect timing to snag their new releases before everyone else does and they are sold out. NYX Cosmetics sells like hot cakes at Ulta stores and often times the items I want are gone by the time I get there. NYX is known for having incredible quality and intense color payoff but with an inexpensive price tag, so naturally, they are hot ticket items. I grabbed the brand new NYX Cosmetics Intense Butter Glosses, which are exactly the same formula as their beloved original Butter Glosses, but with a much more pigmented, intense color payoff. I’m all about a product putting down opaque color, so I knew this was going to be a hit product for me. Today I have Spice Cake, Banana Split, Tres Leches, and Napoleon for you! Swatches inside…
I picked up 4 of these because Ulta pretty much always has NYX Cosmetics on “Buy 1, Get 1 50% off” status. That means you can snag 4 of these Intense Butter Glosses for around $18.00USD, which is a major beauty bargain. I honestly wanted to purchase every single color they had, but I tried to start off with just a few and choose a good range of shades to sample. If you’re not familiar with the original NYX Butter Gloss, it is a gorgeously smooth, hydrating, buttery lip gloss that feels wonderful on your lips. It is one of their top selling products and has a bit of a cult following. I’ve always liked the formula on the Butter Gloss, but I’ve always hoped for shades with more opaque, intense pigmentation. So here we are!
Each Intense Butter Gloss comes with a flat applicator tip. These are saturated in color and I find that the applicator does a good job at picking up the perfect amount of product without overdoing it.
Spice Cake is an intense berry-purple. Talk about gorgeous. One stroke with the applicator brush is all you need for this intense color. This shade tends to stain a little bit, which is great for long-lasting color on your lips, but a little tougher to get off at the end of the day.
Banana Split is a bright and light coral shade. This actually reminds me a lot of Dose of Color’s “Sunshine Kisses” Gloss, but for a fraction of the price. It’s absolutely stunning for the spring and summer and would look great with really glowing skin. This is going to be a staple color for me.
Tres Leches is a neutral nude-pink shade. It has some brown tones in it that make it even more subdued. This is a classic shade that will work for every day wear and with heavier eye makeup.
Napoleon is a bright, cheery pink shade. This is another perfect shade for spring and summer because it’s got that really “happy” pink tone to it.
Every single one of the swatches above is exactly ONE swipe of the applicator across my hand. These are as opaque and pigmented as they say they are.
Overall, I am in love. What more can you ask for in a lip gloss? These are pigmented and opaque in just one swipe. The formula is smooth and hydrating on the lips. The new collection also comes with a great array of color choices, so there’s something for everyone. The best part though, is the inexpensive price tag.
NYX Cosmetics Intense Butter Glosses retail for $6.00USD and can be found at Ulta stores nationwide, as well as online at Ulta Beauty. Ulta typically runs a “Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off” on NYX all the time, so you can snag 4 of these for $18.00USD. I will be going back for more in the near future, but you may want to hurry to your nearest Ulta store, because I know these are going to be constantly sold out!
