The newest OPI Nail Lacquer is called “The Swiss Collection,” for Fall/Winter 2010, and consists of twelve vastly different shades, ranging from cranberry, to mermaid blue, to metallic silver and gold. I picked up a few of the shades from the collection that caught my eye the most. “Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous” was a surprise stunner out of this collection for me. In the bottle, this shade looks like your average metallic silver…nothing special. On your nails, this shade looks like sparkling tin foil on your nails. The effect is simply gorgeous – it’s dark and mysterious, but the intense shimmering metallic finish makes it edgy and vampy. To see more swatches,
See how in the bottle it almost looks like just another metallic nail polish? Well, on the nails, the silver foil effect pops right off your nails, and in sunlight, you can even catch hints of what appears to be multi-colored micro-glitter. This is slightly similar to “Shine,” the metallic silver in the Orly Foil Collection, however “Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous” has a much more pronounced foil effect, and much more pronounced shimmer, as well as a darker gray base.
The formula on this was sheer but buildable and easy to work with. When you first apply it, it will look slightly sheer, and within two coats (which is what I used in all my swatches) you will have perfect, even color. The texture of the polish does have a bit of a “gritty” feeling and look to it, which I am guessing is part of the dramatic shimmer effect. The grittiness doesn’t bother me, but some nail polish lovers might be turned off by that.
The limited edition OPI Swiss Collection is currently on sale at Ulta stores nationwide. You can also find an OPI retailer near you by using the “Where To Buy” tool on the OPI Website.
