These L’oreal Paris Aqua Lip Lacquer’s are very cool and definitely one-of-a-kind for a drugstore lip product. When I originally saw these in stores I was intrigued by them because they reminded me exactly of my YSL Glossy Stain’s which I own and love. The problem is that the YSL Glossy Stains will put a hurting on your wallet, whereas these retail for less than $10.00 USD a piece. I have three gorgeous colors here that I am reviewing for you: Infinite Fuchsia, Everlasting Caramel, and Pink Resistance. My full thoughts on the product are inside, but trust me, whether you’re looking for a YSL Glossy Stain dupe or just a long lasting lip product in general, you won’t be disappointed.
The packaging on these are really nice and look quite high end for a drugstore product. In the display, this was what originally caught my eye. I had a feeling that this was the drugstore dupe for YSL Glossy Stain’s and I was hoping that I was right!
If you’re unfamiliar with the formula on these products, you are going to be blown away when you try them for the first time. This product is a stain and a gloss in one, meaning that even after it initially wears off, your lips will have a gorgeous “stain” of color to them that looks very natural. This product is made up of 30% water, which you can definitely feel when you put the product onto your lips. It almost feels like a combination of water, lip gloss, and jelly! It is a strange sensation at first, but it feels extremely hydrating and moisturizing to your lips. Once in place, the formula really stays put and doesn’t move much, even through drinking, kissing, and wiping your mouth. The formula feels completely non-sticky too, which is incredible considering how the actual product feels on your lips. It’s one of those products you just have to give a chance in order to see if you like it because it’s a different feeling than lip gloss and lipstick.
Pink Resistance is a pretty pastel pink shade with a slight shimmer to it. The lighter shades in this collection are less pigmented than the brighter and bolder shades, so if you’re expecting the paler nudes and pinks to be extremely opaque and pigmented, you may want to go for another product. Since this is meant to be a cross between a lip stain and a gloss, the lighter shades will impart a gorgeous, light sheen to your lips with a kiss of color.
You can see that it gives my lips just the slightest hint of color and shimmer, while imparting a gorgeous shine. Now if you want some serious pigmentation and opaque lip color, you’re going to love the next two…
Everlasting Caramel is a medium brown shade with gold sparkle. I actually don’t love this shade against my skin tone, but I can see it working well with 1960’s inspired cat-eye makeup and bronzed cheeks. I also think this shade would be absolutely stunning against dark skin tones. This one has a great amount of pigmentation and was quite opaque in just one swipe.
I envision this on someone with dark skin and I just think it would be absolutely perfect. If you’ve got medium-dark to dark skin, you should give this shade a try!
Infinite Fuchsia is a bright raspberry shade that is very opaque and very pigmented. If you’re into the berry lip trend, this is a great product for you because it has a glossy finish to it and it manages to look young and fresh.
As far as how well these work as a lip stain, I can tell you that the brighter and darker shades are definitely long-lasting. I applied “Infinite Fuchsia” and “Everlasting Caramel” to the back of my hand and I still have a stain on my hand leftover after several hand-washes.
Above is the stain that “Everlasting Caramel” left on my hand, so it will definitely stay put on your lips for hours and hours. I was very pleased with how long wearing these were!
So you can see all three together, from the top, “Pink Resistance,” “Everlasting Caramel,” and “Infinite Fuchsia.”
Overall: These are an exact dupe for the much more expensive YSL Glossy Stains. If you’re looking for a lip product that is a fraction of the price, you’ll be pleased to know that these deliver a gorgeous, long-lasting stain to your lips. The formula is moisturizing, unique, and feels very cool on the lips!
