The newest addition to the NARS family is the NARS Velvet Lip Glide. Being a huge fan of all of their products, I was fascinated by the unique formula. It’s meant to glide on like a gloss, feel as comfortable as a lip balm, and look like a lipstick. I have 4 shades to show you today, and they’re all very different from one another. Swatches and my thoughts are inside,
At first I thought the shades I received were a part of a set, perhaps a holiday gift set, but after doing a lot of searching online, I didn’t see any similar sets with these 4 shades. I believe these were sent as a set for the press to review and try, with a healthy mix of shades.
The applicator is flat on both sides with a rounded tip. It applies like a lip gloss with a twist-up top and spongey applicator.
SWATCHES:
Bound is a rosy pink shade. It’s the perfect neutral with just a hint of brown to it, making it universally flattering. The formula is unreal. It feels like butter on your lips and applies very smoothly and evenly. It feels like a lipstick once it is on your lips, however, and even looks like a lipstick and not a lip gloss. These each have a satin-like finish where they are not completely matte but not 100% glossy either.
Danceteria is a bright fuschia shade. It’s bright but very wearable and somehow ends up looking softer on the lips because of the formula. I really adore the formula and how moisturizing it feels.
No. 54 is your classic blue-based red shade. It has such a perfect formula to it, that it is my new go-to red lip shade. Red lipstick is tricky because you don’t want it feathering or flaking on dry lips.
Toy is your vampy dark wine shade. I was really looking forward to this one after trying the formula out and loving it. This shade can be slightly streaky on the lips, but my advice is to not use too little or too much. Two coats of this seemed to be the perfect amount of product to give me even coverage. I love dark lipstick and I love this shade.
Each NARS Velvet Lip Glide retails for $26.00USD each and can be found online here. You can also find these in Sephora stores nationwide. The entire collection contains 13 shades total.
