Hey there, Beauty Gala readers! It’s Kelsey from Balmaholic here! Rebecca honored me by asking if I’d like to send a guest review her way, and of course, I happily accepted the offer. This is a review for my go-to balm – my Holy Grail if you will. You can look for the original review over at http://balmaholic.net or
- PRODUCT NAME: CVS Lip Care Aloe Vera
- PRICE: These retail for $1.99 at CVS, but I bought this in a BOGO sale for less than one dollar each. Even though $1.99 isn’t exactly breaking the bank in itself, I’d suggest stocking up when they’re on sale. And to remedy any confusion, these can usually be found at the check-out counter, NOT in the lip balm “department.”
- PACKAGING: So, it’s not the most exciting tin in the world, is it? Yeah, I can admit it’s pretty boring and lacks some serious character. All we really have here is a metallic company logo, product name, and “SPF 15” on a solid background (the “aloe vera” is also non-metallic). The back lists some drug facts, warnings and some other crap I can’t read. Trust me, you’re not missing much. The lid doesn’t screw on, and the lids seem to differ from tin to tin. One of mine is really loose and comes off easily, while another one is super tight and pretty difficult to open. Like I said, it’s not the best packaging, nor is it the most exciting. I can’t really complain too much when it cost me less than a buck.
- TEXTURE/GLIDE: I’m not a lip brush type of gal, so this goes on the “old-fashioned” way. Yeah, that’s right. I get down and dirty and apply this with my finger. It glides on super easily and usually I don’t need to dip back in for more to cover my mouth entirely. The texture is very creamy, and not at all thin but I wouldn’t really call it thick either. It just sort of blankets your lips. That sounds really lame, but I speak the truth.
- SOFTEN/SOOTHE: The softening abilities of this balm are amazing, and it definitely helps to cure and fight chapped lips. I usually only apply this once before I sleep (sometimes once during the day, depending on the condition of my lips), and I wake up with the softest lips I think I have ever had.
- SHINE: It does leave a hint of sheen, which is nice when you don’t really want to apply a gloss.
- FLAVOR/SMELL: This has a very strong aloe vera smell, which is pretty sweet and somewhat fruity. I absolutely love the way this stuff smells, and even my boyfriend is a big fan. He’ll randomly say, “Oh, what’s that one? That smells really good.” It’s always the same one, but he has the memory of a goldfish at times.
- LASTING POWER: When I put this on right before I sleep, I wake up however many hours later (usually not as many as I should’ve slept) with balm still lingering on my lips. It really is amazing.
- INGREDIENTS: Active Ingredients: Octinoxate (1.0%), Oxybenzone (2.5%), Petrolatum (79.5%). Inactive Ingredients: Ozokerite, Mineral Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Flavor, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Titanium Dioxide, Stearic Acid, Aluminum Hydroxide, Yellow 5 Lake, Blue 1 Lake.
- ANYTHING ELSE: This contains SPF 15, so you beach bunnies, you’re in luck!
- OVERALL: There’s really nothing I can say about this, other than it’s amazing. It feels great, smells great, moisturizes great, and the price? Yeah, you got it. It’s great. I have three of these in my possession right now (one in my bag, one next to my bed, and one at my boyfriend’s house), and if there’s a sale in the near future, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be picking up some more. Just ’cause. I definitely give this a 5 out of 5.

I can’t find this lip care at CVS anymore. Do they still make it?

I actually checked in my local CVS last night and I still found it on the shelves! Sometimes different CVS’s carry different items. Have you tried any other CVS stores?
