The 2014 Grammy Awards were this past Sunday, and I have to say, it is definitely my favorite awards show in terms of the red carpet looks. I love checking out all the musicians to see what they’re wearing, how their hair is styled, and what the makeup trends are. We saw a huge metallic trend going on, from Chrissy Teigen to Ciara, to Taylor Swift. Beyonce stole the show, not just with her opening act, but with her absolutely stunning floor length white-lace gown that showed off her incredible curves. Her fresh, wavy bob and smokey eyes with red lips are what inspired my look for this post!

MY FAVORITES FROM THE 2014 GRAMMY AWARDS RED CARPET:
Taylor Swift was rockin’ the metallic trend like no one’s business! Her gown was actually chain-linked and slinky, showing off her tall, supermodel-like body. I loved the metallic glare that the dress gave off when the flashes were going.
Ciara, in all her glowing, pregnant glory, looked absolutely extraordinary in her metallic beaded gown and bare minimum makeup. She had the most gorgeous faux bob going on, too, which I recreated for this look.
Chrissy Teigen was a vision in a mirrored, silver metallic dress. Noticing a trend here? It was all about the metallics and sequins!
Beyonce was my best-dressed of the night. She was perfect from head to toe with a long, white, lace cutout gown that showed off her incredible body. Her wavy bob kept things youthful and fresh, and I adored her smokey black eye makeup and red lipstick. She was hands down my best-dressed.
Since Beyonce became my muse for this inspired look, I knew I wanted to do a faux bob on my own hair. Beyonce’s hair is actually cut to this length, but Ciara did a faux bob with her long hair. I also love the way Beyonce rocked a black smokey eye with red lipstick, completely looking like the rockstar that she is. Her makeup was really the perfect paradox to her gown, which was very ethereal, feminine, and elegant.
MY 2014 GRAMMY AWARDS INSPIRED LOOK:
In keeping with Beyonce’s smokey eye makeup, I applied a black eyeshadow on my eyelids and underneath my eyes, smudging out all the edges with a matte brown shade. Go ahead and apply plenty of black eyeliner and let those lashes shine through. It’s a very dramatic, rockstar type of look.
Beyonce rocked some darker red lipstick, but I went with bright red glossy lips. I thought it was the perfect way to top off the dramatic eye makeup. Who says you can’t have dramatic eyes and dramatic lips? This is Grammy inspired!
In keeping with the bob style hair, I decided to go with a faux bob since my hair is long. I curled my hair into loose waves, and then tucked it under at the nape of my neck, securing it with bobby pins. I let the front pieces of my hair fall out into loose curls so they would frame my face. This is very reminiscent of Ciara’s hair on the red carpet.
Ciara’s faux bob is a really simple, fast way to make long hair look shorter, and it has that really feminine, romantic look to it.
The face framing pieces are perfect with a faux bob.
Since metallics and sequins were in full effect, I knew I wanted to do a sequined tank top with a classic black blazer over top of it. I added this gorgeous mixed-metal triangle necklace as an accessory.
Buying a statement piece, like this sequin top, doesn’t have to be intimidating or scary! I love wearing this underneath a classic black blazer to refine the look and tone it down just a tad. It’s enough to grab your attention and dazzle without being over-the-top. It’s a great look that you can wear for a night out or at the office. If you wear it to the office, you can combine it with black dress pants. If you’re wearing this for a night out, I would pair it with some distressed boyfriend jeans and heels. The loose fit of boyfriend jeans and the distressed finish of the jeans balance out the structure of the blazer and the fanciness of the sequins.
I just love the sequins and the metallic look so much. The 2014 Grammy Red Carpet made me love it even more!
When my husband saw me in the completed look, he said, “Whoa! My rockstar wife!” Mission accomplished.
