With Coachella kicking off in California this weekend, I knew I had to do a hippie chic look for you guys! My style is very bohemian year round, and I always say that I was born in the wrong decade. I seriously think I am a flower child, meant to be a teenager during the 1970’s! This look is very Woodstock-inspired, when the women wore a lot of bright, happy, fun colors on their eyes and kept their other makeup quite on the neutral side. I’ve got a full pictorial for you on how I achieved this, and more inspiration pictures!
For this look, I used my Inglot Palette. You buy the eyeshadow shades separately and then place them into your own palette. I marked the 2 shades I used with an “x” above. You can use anything similar in your collection, but you want a shimmering turquoise blue and a shimmering mermaid green shade. This look is super simple, as hippie makeup should be. It was all about adding a bright pop of color to the eyelids that would stand out. You would often see pastel shades such as blue, green, and purple on the eyelid. I also had to go for winged eyeliner (Inglot’s AMC Gel Liner #77) in this look. Is there anything more hippie chic than winged eyeliner?! I kept the cheeks a neutral bronze shade and added a peachy lipstick to my lips (Lime Crime “Babette”). Peach and blue/green tones go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Here’s the pictorial:
The white base really allows the blue and green to stand out on the lid. The green really adds a pop of color and light because it is applied only in the centers of the eyes, while the turquoise blue is on the whole eyelid and in the crease. Be sure to apply plenty of mascara for this look. It was all about the mascara back then, even if it was slightly messy, smudged, and spider-lash like. Think: Twiggy. I applied a good 3-4 coats of mascara!
The finished look is soft and happy, yet there’s also a brightness to it. I added a flower crown that I had for effect, because let’s face it, you just don’t get more boho than a flower crown! I love wearing flower crowns out during the spring and summer. The look is effortless and super pretty. If you wanted to get even more creative, you could draw little flowers on your face near your eyes, such as daisies! It would really make the look even more bohemian and free-spirited.
I felt like a bona-fide hippie chick when I wore this yesterday! It’s very me. If you are heading to Coachella this weekend, be sure to stay safe and have a great time!
