BECCA Cosmetics Ever Matte Poreless Priming Perfector has become my holy-grail face priming product. I have extremely oily skin, especially when the warmer weather hits. It literally takes less than an hour for my makeup to start sliding down my face, and for my t-zone to start getting shiny. Not only does this product prevent that from happening, but any face makeup I apply, whether it be foundation, concealer, or a BB cream, easily glides over my skin and makes my complexion looks flawless. I’ve got a full review inside, as well as some before and after photographs.

If you are completely new to face primers, they act as a “starting point” for your complexion. You apply a primer right before you apply any face makeup, and it usually claims to do something miraculous, whether it’s smoothing your skin, adding radiance, taking away shine, or minimizing your pores. I’ve tried many primers in my years of makeup. If I had to give a rough number, I’d say that I’ve tested out over twenty. BECCA’s Ever Matte Primer is genuinely a favorite of mine, and one I use every single day now. When I forget to apply it, I actually notice a huge difference in the time my makeup lasts and even just the way my makeup sits on my face.
This primer in particular is made for those with oily skin, combination skin, or those who want to minimize pores. It claims to make and keep even the oiliest of skin at bay for up to eight hours. It’s also silicone-free, oil free, alcohol free, and fragrance free. This is a big deal for those who may typically get pimples from certain primers. I was very excited to put it to the test because ever since I was younger I remember being self-conscious about my oily skin. I loved that my skin had an olive tone and could always tan well, but the oiliness made me feel self-conscious in high school. I distinctly remember going into the bathroom stalls in middle school and using toilet paper to blot my face because I was embarrassed. Luckily, it never really meant I had bad skin or anything other than the occasional breakout. The good news is that modern-day makeup has allowed us to fix the problem!
I literally use a pea-size amount for my entire face each time. The formula is very lightweight feeling, almost like a thin moisturizer. It has a sticky feeling to it, especially when you apply it to your face. At first I was put off by it, but then I realized that the stickiness is actually “soaking up” the oil on your face and keeping it out of your pores. I also instantly noticed that the stickiness of the product is what makes my foundation look so flawless and smooth. It literally makes applying foundation, concealer, or a BB cream a complete breeze. I spend a lot less time buffing out my makeup to blend it because it instantly melts into my skin and essentially becomes my “second skin.”
My skin is not horrible. I quite like my skin, and for the most part, I just need a bit of foundation or BB cream, and concealer for the area around my nose, and under-eye area. I apply the BECCA Ever Matte Primer over my entire t-zone, so my forehead, nose area (especially important), chin, and a little bit on my cheeks as well. I have some pores on my nose that can really make my skin oily, and they can be noticeable even with foundation on. I’m not sure if this primer actually reduced those pores, but they looked much less pronounced after I applied it and then put face makeup on.
My skin looks natural still, but completely perfected, almost “blurred” out from the primer and a small drop of foundation. My skin looks matte and smooth, and you can see how the pores on my nose from the “BEFORE” picture are now much, much less pronounced…almost invisible. What else can I say except that I love it? It did what it claimed it was going to do, exceeded my expectations, and lasted on my face for hours and hours.
Overall, the BECCA Ever Matte Primer has become a staple in my beauty routine. When I use it, my skin becomes instantly matte, and the pores on my nose look less pronounced. My face makeup really looks fantastic over top of this primer, as well. It helps it “stick” to and melt into my skin so it looks very natural. This primer kept my shine at bay for around 9 1/2 hours total.
The BECCA Cosmetics Ever Matte Poreless Primer Perfector is available exclusively at Sephora stores nationwide, as well as online at Sephora’s website. Each primer retails for $36.00 USD for 1.35oz. Considering I only need to use a pea-size amount each time I use this, the tube will last me quite awhile.

Just FYI.. the #1 ingredient, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, is Milk of Magnesia, which is about $4 for a large bottle.

If that works for you, go for it. Milk of magnesia leaves a white cast and it also dries out my skin very, very badly. I would never use it on my own face on a daily basis as a primer.
