Physician’s Formula has been stepping up their game in the drugstore cosmetics industry lately, launching several new lines of products that back up their mission statement as a company: non-comedogenic, paraben & fragrance free, natural makeup. It’s that time of year when many of us do not want to wear heavy coverage foundation on our face, with the temperatures rising, our makeup runs, and we want light, beautiful coverage. Tinted moisturizer is a fabulous alternative to foundation for the spring and summer, both moisturizing your face, and providing sheer coverage in one. Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer is a brand new option, and I put this product to the test. Did it live up to my lofty expectations?

Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer SPF 50 (in Light to Natural)
Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer delivers maximum UVA/UVB protection while providing sheer and natural looking coverage. This mineral based product works to provide SPF50 protection and help skin stay protected from the harmful rays of the sun longer, without residue or greasiness. Antioxidants in it work to prevent future UV damage and premature signs of aging, while licorice extract and tomato derivatives help to brighten the skin and diminish the appearance of sun spots.
Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer SPF50 is a product with ambitious goals: provide natural, light coverage while also protecting your skin from the sun, AND improve the appearance of the skin. I am personally a strong advocate of always using sunscreen, and avoiding tanning, as not only does it prevent premature aging, but it also shields you from something very preventable: skin cancer. Tinted moisturizers are typically used most during the spring and summer months when makeup wearers want light, non-greasy coverage that won’t slide off their face or look oily. Not all tinted moisturizers contain an SPF in them, however, setting this tinted moisturizer above those that don’t in my book.
The product has a very distinct scent to it, and that will probably be the first thing you notice when you apply it to your face. It has a distinct “off” smell to it (if you’ve ever used Revlon ColorStay foundation, you know what I am talking about!). It’s not strong or overpowering to the point that it would prevent me from using the product, and the scent is most likely due to the sunscreen in the product. This product comes with a pump applicator, making it extremely desirable, as you can dispense the exact amount of product you want without wasting any. In my photographs, however, you will notice that the applicator pump on mine is broken, because my dog chewed it off! Upon applying the product, I was very impressed with the coverage for a tinted moisturizer. In my tinted moisturizer collection, I have a couple that barely cover any type of redness, blotches, or imperfections. This formula was fantastic, as it was light and sheer, but pigmented, and covered very well. Any uneven spots I had around my nose and cheeks were instantly perfected, and my skin looked radiant and glowing. This product gave a really natural glow to my skin, as evidenced by the photograph below:
Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer almost makes it look as though you are wearing no makeup on your face at all. I absolutely love that about this product, because who wants to feel like they are wearing heavy makeup on their face? A light and airbrushed look with great coverage? Yes, please!

This product has antioxidants in it that prevent premature aging and future UV damage to your skin. It also has licorice and tomato extracts in it which fade current sun spots and brighten skin. I can tell you that I definitely noticed that it brightened my skin after using it for a few weeks. My current facial moisturizer is “Say Yes To Tomatoes,” which contains tomato extracts (lycopene) in it, similar to this tinted moisturizer. This tinted moisturizer definitely gave me the same benefits as my moisturizer does after I apply it: smooth, bright, refreshed looking skin.
Natural or busy babes can swipe a light coat of this on their skin, and go. This tinted moisturizer also looks fabulous with a bit of bronzer or some blush on your face. It blends well with other types of makeup, and stands up well to other products, with it’s sheer glow standing out. Another great thing about this product is that it is perspiration and water resistant, so you can go about your activities and not worry about looking greasy, or having your makeup run down your face after a few hours. As always with Physician’s Formula products, this product is free of fragrance, parabens, oil, and is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic, so it will not irritate sensitive skin or clog your pores.
Bottom line: If you’re looking for natural, light coverage that actually covers with the added skin protection of SPF and antioxidants, Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer is a fabulous choice for you. This product comes in four shades at the drugstore: Fair Light, Ivory Fair, Light Natural, and Natural Tan, taking the guesswork out of color matching and making it easy to find a shade that matches your skin tone. This product will become my new staple for my face this spring and summer.
Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear Tinted Moisturizer SPF50 retails for $14.99 at local drugstores and retailers. You can also purchase this product online at Ulta: Buy Physician’s Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer or by clicking the product photograph below:

I was excited to finally read a review of this! I was really excited about this tinted foundation when I saw it in stores; but the shades are way darker than normal. Even the fair/light was more like a medium. I recommended buying at least 1 shade lighter. I’m an NW20 and the fair/light in the liquid was too dark for me (I noticed it was also just a tad dark on your skin also)…but I really love the waterproof factor. After seeing the flawless results you got, I think I’m going to give this product a second try! 😀
Welcome Christy! Yes, I will absolutely agree with you that the shades are a little darker than I was expecting. I think it’s also because this product in general was way more pigmented than I expected it to be. Some of my tinted moisturizers feel watery and barely cover at all, so when this was pigmented and rich, I was very surprised.
Thank you so much for your comment Christy, and also for the recommendation to the readers about going a shade lighter. Great tip!
