I am really excited about the OPI Mariah Carey Collection because it contains a new type of polish called “liquid sand.” Basically, they are glitter shades that you don’t use a topcoat on, and they dry with a somewhat matte texture. The fun part is that they are super sparkly and full of glitter, so your nails will still glimmer in the light, giving off a really cool effect. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like the liquid sand formula since it dries matte and slightly gritty like a light sandpaper, but I actually love the way it ends up looking! I’ve got swatches of all eight polishes from this collection inside,
Four of the nail polishes are separate from the “Liquid Sand” collection. These are a stunning group of shades that I actually fell in love with upon seeing, and I will be wearing every single one of these shades regularly.
Pink Yet Lavender is a glitter topcoat with larger and smaller chunks of glitter in it. The glitter is (you guessed it!) pink and lavender. The formula was nice on this one, with the glitter coming out easily. Above is two coats.
Anti-Bleak is a stunning purple creme. How gorgeous is this? It’s nothing incredibly unique or groundbreaking, but there is something to be said for the simplicity of a gorgeously opaque creme nail polish in a nice rich shade. Above is just one coat, that is how opaque and lovely this one was to apply.
Sprung is a reflective copper peach with gold shimmer in it. Another really pretty color, and this one is wearable to the office or a professional environment without being totally boring. I really like the complexity of the shimmer and the effect it has when it hits the light.
A Butterfly Moment is a frosty tan/pink/nude shade. This one is opalescent and soft, and a complete classic color for your collection. I will personally be sporting this shade on my toes during the spring and summer. Above is three coats, just to give the polish a perfectly opaque look.
The second half of the collection is the “Liquid Sands.” These dry to a matte, pebbled finish that is slightly rough, but still give off a pretty shine. I love the concept because it’s something different, and something about it is very “superstar” and “edgy” to me. Very Mariah. Very diva, indeed!
Stay The Night is black with red glitter inside. At first I wasn’t sure if the glitter was hot pink or red, but OPI confirms it is red. It’s so hard to properly capture the beauty of these liquid sand polishes via camera. Whenever something is matte, especially these because they have glitter, it ends up looking more flat and less pretty in the photograph. These polishes are one of those collections you’ll need to check out in person for yourself to decide if you like it or not. This shade went on somewhat sheer, so the above is two coats.
The Impossible is a red glitter with star confetti inside of it. Unfortunately, the stars basically sunk to the bottom and stayed there. I didn’t even get one single star to come out with two coats of polish on each nail. This is still an absolutely gorgeous shade though, and the liquid sand effect makes it look even cooler in my opinion.
Can’t Let Go is a dazzling blue-violet shade. Of course you know I adore this one! It had great pigmentation and it only needed two coats.
Get Your Number is surprisingly my favorite of the bunch. The blue is bright and bold, and the matte glitter effect makes it look really edgy and fun.
Overall: The Liquid Sand polishes are a unique and edgy new type of polish. You can, of course, use a topcoat over them if you wanted to, but the matte and sparkly combination is unique. The other four polishes in this collection had a really nice formula on them, and they were great colors for everyday wear.
