During one of my leisurely “get-out-of-the-house-I-have-cabin-fever” strolls, I found these new L’oreal lip products that I thought looked interesting. It’s been so hot here that even getting up at 7:45am for a run around the neighborhood is too late (I was drenched this morning). I’ve been trying to mainly leave my house and do errands if I have to during the evening, simply because it’s so darn hot during the day. I stumbled upon the L’oreal La Lacque and the L’oreal Le Matte lip display and decided to try one of each formula. I have Choco-Lacque and Game, Set, Matte for you today. I ended up using one of my CVS Extracare beauty coupons that came out when I scanned my card in the store, so I got these for buy one, get one 50%. Do they fall short of my expectations or totally rock?
L’oreal Le Matte and L’oreal La Lacque are two totally different formula’s, so it’s important that you look at the display and make sure you’re getting the finish you want. I actually grabbed two that were my favorite shades, and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized there were 2 different formulations inside the same display. I wasn’t mad, since it gave me a chance to test out the two totally different finishes.
What initially drew me to these was their precision tip applicator. It’s different from any other type of lip product you see in the drugstore right now and falls somewhere in between a lip liner and a lipstick in terms of thickness. Usually when products have a smaller applicator tip like this, that means they are going to be pigmented, so I was anxious to try them out!
SWATCHES:
Game, Set, Matte is the matte formula from L’oreal, and it is a pretty doll pink shade. It is quite pigmented and puts down color in just a swipe back and forth. It is definitely on the dry side, which can be typical for a matte lip product. I thought this one was really dry, more so on my lips than on the back of my hand, and my lips weren’t even very dry or chapped. I would say that extra prep to your lips is necessary if you’re going to be wearing one of these, so exfoliate well beforehand. I also felt that this dried out my lips over the hours, making my lips look much more chapped as the day went on. I know this can be solved by placing lip balm over your lips, but this takes away the matte finish and overall, it was a bit of a pain. While I think these are nice in terms of pigmentation, I’m not completely blown away by the formula and how it feels on the lips.
Choco-Lacque, which is part of the glossier lip lacquers L’oreal has in this line, is perfection. It’s opaque, rich in color, smooth, and puts down color on your lips in just a quick couple of swipes. It felt creamy and hydrating on my lips and that color. It’s a fantastic nude-pink shade with some small hints of mauve brown in it that make it look rich. It’s one of those shades that will work well during the summer, and during the fall and winter months for this reason. I believe this shade is universally flattering on all skin tones, as well. This one blew me away and I don’t have anything negative to say about it. This might be my new favorite lippie to carry around with me!

Overall, I think matte lip colors are very trendy and very attractive right now, but there are many better options out there, especially since these retail for $9.99USD each. The La Lacque formula, however, was out-of-this-world amazing in terms of pigmentation and hydration. I highly recommend giving these a try yourself and seeing what works with your own skin tone and lip needs.
L’oreal Le Matte/La Lacque Lip Colours are available at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide. Each lip color retails for $9.99USD each. You can also purchase them online here. If you want to try more than one shade, I definitely recommend looking for a buy one, get one 50% off sale on L’oreal or using your CVS Extracare card to scan for beauty coupons like I did.
