Lookbook: Bare Escentuals Buxom Stay-There Eyeshadow, “Black Lab”

main7

I have yet to meet a Bare Escentuals Buxom product that I don’t like. The line is innovative, and has the best of both worlds: the natural aspect of Bare Escentuals, and an edgy, fun aspect in their colors and products. Buxom Stay-There Cream Eyeshadows are a brand-new release, and consist of ten long-wearing, crease resistant shades, all named after dog breeds. I am always extremely wary of cream shadows because quite frankly, almost all of them crease, even with a base, and end up looking like a hot mess. Before I splurged on more than one of these, I wanted to test out the formula and application. To see what I thought of “Black Lab,”

Buxom Stay-There Cream Eyeshadows are all uniquely named after dog breeds. This left a lot of beauty lovers scratching their heads, thinking, “What does this have to do with anything?” Personally, I think it was a very cute, unique, kitschy idea. Just like breed preference when searching for a pet, we all have shade preferences for eyeshadow, based on our skin, hair, eye color, and personality. It’s also a great way to remember the shades easily, and besides, it makes the whole shade naming aspect a little less boring than plain “black.” The one I bought to test out is called “Black Lab,” and is (you guessed it) a black cream shadow. Buxom describes it as “shimmering black sky,” which is quite accurate, because this color has a lot of shimmer and sparkle to it. Inside the black you will find blue, green, and yellow micro-glitter that is soft enough to still look sophisticated. I have light eyes, so quite frankly, I love to play up my eye color with dark eyeshadow shades.

“Black Lab” is a creamy, rich, pigmented eyeshadow that applies smoothly. You can apply this with your finger, or you can dip an eye makeup brush into the product to apply. I was, of course, concerned about this product creasing quickly like most other creams. To my surprise and delight, this eyeshadow did not crease for a good six hours. After six hours of wear, I noticed slight creasing and wear in the color, but I was definitely impressed. Another great thing about this product? It is very buildable. You can apply “Black Lab” to look more like a charcoal, smokey gray, or layer it to look smoldering and dark.

“Black Lab” was the perfect choice for me, because quite simply put, it’s very rockstar. When I wear this I feel like an edgy rockstar, while also managing to make my light eyes pop. It received a lot of compliments when I wore it out, especially because the iridescent micro-glitter in it stays put on your eyelid, and makes the shade look very unique.

All of the Buxom Stay-There Cream Eyeshadows would make fabulous gel eyeliners, as well. Simply use an eyeliner brush, and dip it into the product, and you have a gorgeous, unique gel eyeliner. Who doesn’t love products that do multiple duty?
