The Golden Globes were this past Sunday, and I couldn’t help but admire all the amazing fashion and beauty trends on the red carpet. I’ve always loved award shows for the red carpet looks. I often do inspired makeup looks from various award shows, and I love recreating looks that are just absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet. I’m going to highlight some of the main trends that I noticed on the red carpet this year, and then show you how I would wear these trends as my “everyday” style.

2014 GOLDEN GLOBE TRENDS:
Red lips. Red lips were a huge trend this year, although I think the red lip is always a classic for award shows. It’s sophisticated and sexy and perfect for a really glam event.
Statement earrings. The statement earrings seen at the Golden Globes were fierce, many of them dangling and unique. Some of them were stud earrings that were worn vertically along the earlobe! Earrings are my favorite piece of jewelry, so I was definitely excited to see all the beautiful and eclectic pieces on the red carpet.
Glam-Casual Updo’s. I absolutely adore this updo that Zooey Deschanel wore on the red carpet. It’s glamorous enough for the Golden Globes, but it doesn’t look perfectly coiffed or stuck in place. The updo’s were very natural looking, even messy in some ways.
Soft, ethereal eye makeup. Amber Heard’s makeup at the Golden Globes was smokin’ hot. It looked glowing, soft, and glamorous…almost like she was stuck in candlelight. I knew right away when I saw her makeup that I wanted to recreate it.
Black, black, and more black. Black never goes out of style, and it is most chic. My best dressed of the night is definitely Cate Blanchett, in this stunning black lace number. She is so tall and statuesque, with a very long neck, that it fits her body perfectly and couldn’t look more graceful and feminine.
MY “EVERYDAY” TAKE ON THE 2014 GOLDEN GLOBES TRENDS:
You can never go wrong with a sweater dress and opaque tights in the winter. It’s effortless and looks really fashionable, without all the fuss. Most of them are very comfortable, and I love wearing jewel-toned opaque tights to go underneath for a pop of color.
I added some knee-high black boots in the mix for some height and added warmth.
I had some gorgeous statement earrings that are shiny and unique looking, so I knew I had to pair them with my outfit. These ones are so sparkly and they always get compliments!
For my hair, I did a Zooey Deschanel inspired side updo, keeping some curly, messy pieces out for a romantic look. To achieve the braided look, I teased the crown of my hair and then smoothed it back with a brush. I used a braided hairband that matched my hair color to create the slight pompadour effect. It’s a fun way to do your hair when you want to look pulled together but still “everyday.” It’s also a great way to showcase a beautiful pair of earrings!
For my makeup, I went with some dark red lips and the Amber Heard inspired glowing eyes. It’s all about that ethereal, candlelit looking glow.
When you pull the look all together, you have a really pretty street-style look that you can wear to the office, to a party, or for a night out!
