We are already looking forward into the fall season since it is just around the corner, and the China Glaze Rebel Fall 2016 Collection is the perfect transition.
Inspired by the 1990s but with a modern twist, the feminine pinks and pearls paired with deep purples, blues and grays capture the spirit of the decade that brought us grunge, baby doll dresses paired with Doc Martens, Kate Moss, and the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
What’s especially unique about the collection, though, is the modern finishes this collection contains. There are some very special nail colors in this collection that are unlike anything else I currently own. Check out swatches of the entire collection inside!
As soon as I saw the collection in person, I knew I had to break out my distressed denim jacket. It’s just perfectly 90’s and grungy, which is what this collection reminds me of. The finishes of the polishes cannot be truly seen though until they are on the nails. Many of them are very unique and are absolutely stunning. Let’s look at swatches…
Dope Taupe is your classic, cool “greige” that has been popularized in the past year. It’s part gray and part beige, with a clean creme finish.
Pearl Jammin’ is one of my personal favorites from the collection. It’s a light pastel blue with a peach pearl duo-chrome. It shines like crazy whenever it hits any type of light and it’s so unique. It had a really good formula on it too, needing just two light coats to put down a beautiful, opaque finish.
Purple Fiction is a medium toned violet with flashes of lighter metallic particles in it. As a purple lover, I adore this shade. It’s not the most unique shade in the world, but it’s rich and applies well.
Heroine Chic is a gray with particles of multi-color shimmer. This is a great shade for someone who wants to wear a little sparkle but doesn’t want to wear full on glitter. It’s very office appropriate, as well.
Teen Spirit is a dark navy blue with bright violet shimmer in it. The violet shimmer really comes out when it hits natural sunlight the most (and it happened to be cloudy this day).
BlueYa! is a medium blue with tons of turquoise shimmer in it. It’s like a mermaid in a bottle! It’s really quite beautiful for any season and the shimmer particles seem to “float” inside the medium blue shade.
Fresh Prince-ss is a babydoll pink creme. This brings back all the memories of the 90’s movie “Clueless” and the puffy light pink pens that were so popular. It’s a very pretty shade, but you’ll need patience for this one. It can apply a little bit uneven and you’ll need to wait in between coats so that you can get the perfect coverage.
Don’t Mesh With Me is another favorite of mine in this collection. It reminds me of a galaxy with all of the multi-colored blue’s and violet’s. It has a sheerness to the base, but you can build it up and make it look darker with 2-3 coats.
Holo At Ya Girl is a full on glitter that reminds me of the sea. It contains gold, green, blue, and turquoise and it sparkles like crazy, almost giving off a holographic effect. If you love glitter like I do, you’ll adore this one.
Y’all Red-y For This is a bright red with a bit of metallic shimmer in it. A sexy, sophisticated classic red never goes out of style and this one has a great formula. I love how the shiny metallic shimmer in it makes the red stand out!
Jagged Little Teal is a darkened teal creme. I love the Alanis reference here and I also love how chic this shade looks as a simple creme formula. It’s one of the shades that makes teal nail polish very wearable and stylish.
Combat Blue-ts is my personal favorite of the collection. It’s a navy blue with a pure matte finish. I didn’t actually know this was going to dry matte until I applied it, but it looks like 90’s rock magic once it dries. I will be wearing this one non-stop all fall.
Overall, I really think this collection has a unique range of shades and finishes. It channels the 90’s perfectly and every shade had a really great formula with the exception of “Fresh Prince-ss,” which requires more patience and coats for it to be opaque and even.
China Glaze Rebel will be available starting August 1st, 2016 with select shades at Ulta and Sally Beauty Supply stores, and the complete collection will be available online at BeautyPlusSalon.com, MSRP $7.50 each.
