Today I bring you an amazing product that I have been so excited about lately. Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow Pencils are super creamy, rich, pigmented eyeshadow pencils that last and last on your eyes. This is the first type of long-wearing cream eyeshadow product we’re seeing that is available at the drugstore, and these don’t budge! They are so rich in color and look so gorgeous when you apply them. Since I’m a bit obsessed with my NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils, these have totally taken the place in my heart. Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow Pencils are available in six shades and they are water-resistant and long lasting. You can use them as an eyeliner or as an eyeshadow, or even as an eyeshadow base. These have super staying power that I love and will last for over twelve hours on your eyes. When I was swatching these pencils on my hand, it took the proper makeup remover product to remove them, which is a sign that they are very long-wearing and crease resistant. I love that they come in pencil form which makes it really easy to apply the product around your eye area.

I love that they give you three gorgeous neutrals and three rich brights. It kind of leaves something for everyone.

These are so creamy and stunning when applied…they literally glow once they are applied. They felt so velvety soft and smooth, and they last even under water. I love using these as a base for other eyeshadow colors, too, which will make the colors of your eyeshadow more vibrant and help them last longer. These will be great for times when you’re in a rush and need to apply some color quickly, as well. Overall, I am obsessed with these pencils!

Maybelline Porcelain Collection Lipstick “Afternoon Tea,” Photographs & Swatches

Today was “Diablo Day,” also known as the day Diablo III was released. One little known fact about me is that while I am a huge girly girl, I also love sports and video games. I adore computer games like World of Warcraft and had been looking forward to the release of Diablo III for quite some time. As a result, this post is going to be kind of a mini-post, and I’m going to get right to the point. The Maybelline Porcelain Collection contains this lipstick called Afternoon Tea, which is the perfect pinkish-mauve shade. It’s a wonderful neutral for a natural lip look, and it would be a great lipstick to top off a colorful eye makeup look with. To see photographs and swatches of this universally flattering lipstick,

Afternoon Tea is a rose-tinted mauve shade. I love the name of this lipstick because I think it is very apropos. When I think of afternoon tea, I think of being prim, proper, yet cozy, and this color speaks to the natural nature of this shade. It changes the color of your lips without being loud, and it manages to be very sophisticated, chic, and timeless. It’s also a great look for going natural or topping off a really colorful eye makeup look with.

The lipstick has a nice sheen to it and it applies very smooth. I really like the Maybelline lipsticks and I continue to purchase them time and time again because they have a great lipstick formula!

Afternoon Tea swatch

Overall: This is a great shade to wear at the office or on days when you just want a small pop of color to your lips. It’s a really great “grab and go” kind of color.

Revlon’s Summer Escapism 2012 Collection: “Beach Beauty,” Eyeshadow Palette, Photographs, Swatches, & Tutorial

The Summer 2012 collection from Revlon is called Summer Escapism, and we once again see Gucci Westman create a gorgeous, appropriate palette for the warmer weather. I spotted this palette when I was at the drugstore, ended up passing on it, and then went back to grab it because I really wanted to test out the colors. The shades in this palette remind me of a beach with the soft gray, blue, and brown. “Beach Beauty” is a beautiful array of shades that you can wear together or separately. I put together a quick look using the palette so you can see how the colors perform, as well. To see photographs, swatches, and my eye look using this new palette,

Beach Beauty is a palette containing five eyeshadow shades: black, soft grey, pearl white, soft turquoise, and a dark brown. What I love about this palette is that the array of shades reminds me of being at the seashore. When we first moved into our house almost five years ago, we didn’t decorate a lot of the rooms with any specific theme yet. When we got back from marrying in Hawaii, I had these gorgeous photographs of the beach and shoreline in Maui, and I was inspired to turn our downstairs powder room into a tropical oasis. I achieved the look with one of my favorite color combinations: turquoise and brown. The two colors complement each other beautifully and the effect is very spa-like. This palette has the same type of theme going on in it, and the effect is truly gorgeous on your eyes!

The shades are rich in color and silky soft. They weren’t overly powdery at all, which I was happy about.

The richest colors in the palette were the black and the shimmering dark brown.

The Look I Put Together:

For this look, I applied the turquoise blue into the inner corners of my eyes, making sure they really popped. I applied the soft grey over my entire eyelid, and blended it out with the dark brown in the outer crease and corners of my eyes. I used the soft pearl white on my brow-bone for a highlight and then lined the outer half of my upper lash-line using the black. On the bottom lash-line, I applied some black eyeliner to the outer half. I wanted to keep the inner parts of the eyes really bright and reflective so that the turquoise showed up as a beautiful, luminous highlight. The end result is a gradient of seashore-like colors!

Overall: The Revlon “Beach Beauty” Palette has a beautiful array of shades that work together seamlessly. The palette is perfectly named since the colors are reminiscent of being at the beach. The colors are soft but bright!

Natural Beauty: Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer in “Rhubarb,” Photographs & Swatches

I still remember the first time my best adolescent friend whipped out a lip balm I had never heard of and said to me “You HAVE to try this, it is so minty!” It was Burt’s Bees lip balm, the original, of course. I’ve been using Burt’s Bees since that day, and the brand has really expanded since then. Since I’m a huge fan of their products in general, I decided to try one of their Lip Shimmer products, seeing as how I love to keep my lips super moisturized but still want color to them. This lip balm has the same minty feeling and smell from peppermint oil, but it has a hint of gorgeous color to it. To see “Rhubarb,”

Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer is 100% natural and cruelty-free. My favorite part about the Burt’s Bees lip balms is the all-natural peppermint oil. It gives you that “just brushed” clean, refreshing feeling but on your lips, and it smells luscious. Rhubarb is a raspberry shade that leans somewhere between pink and red. It’s not quite a red, which I love, because it’s more subtle. It adds a gorgeous sheen to your lips as well, and hydrates them like crazy. I find myself reapplying this lip balm very often because the peppermint oil in it is so refreshing. Don’t worry though, it’s not a “burning” feeling like lip plumpers have!

I love that there is a sheerness to the color as well. It makes it feel really natural and when I wear this I feel like a natural beauty!

This is such a flattering color on everyone, too. It’d look great on all complexions, hair colors, and eye colors.

In general, this product makes my lips look larger and more luscious. Love!

Overall: I was extremely impressed with this Lip Shimmer by Burt’s Bees! It’s the perfect 100% natural product for those who prefer to go natural, and the peppermint oil is an amazing scent and refreshing on the lips. Makeup Organization 101 with Caboodles!

One of my fondest memories growing up is collecting Caboodles to store my “makeup” in. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t always makeup, but more like hair scrunchies, slap bracelets, and whatever my mom would give me from her makeup collection, but the storage was the coolest part. Everyone I knew owned one, and they came in different colors and sizes. Every year I would ask for another one, and every year I would happily wake up on Christmas morning, shredding the wrapping paper open to find a shiny new Caboodles container! Now known as the “Classic,” they still sell Caboodles, and have expanded their brand beautifully. Caboodles is twenty-five years old, and celebrating strong with a gorgeous collection of modern, updated makeup storage and organization. In the above video, I wanted to show you in detail the two products I love, as well as how I use them, and a little bit of my makeup storage. Caboodles Beauty Buffet Tray: This is the mother-load of all makeup organization. There isn’t a single woman (or man) out there that couldn’t put one of these to great use. You can use it to literally store absolutely anything, but it’s especially great for beauty supplies and toiletries. It’s great to put in your bathroom to organize your hair or skin products, it’s great to put where you do your makeup so you can easily grab and apply your favorite cosmetics, and even better is that it is affordable. I’ve been looking for an acrylic storage unit like this for awhile, and they are always very expensive (The Container Store), which turns me off. Also, this unit has far more room and slots for makeup products than most of the ones I’ve seen. It’s sturdy, affordable, and it organizes your items in clear, plain view. I chose the “Beauty Buffet Tray” because it had an extensive variety of slots for different makeup items from nail polish to lipstick to eyeshadow, and everything in between. Caboodles has a fabulous array of acrylic trays that fit your needs based on how much room you have, where you want to store it, and what you’re placing inside the tray. Major kudos to Caboodles for filling in the greatly-needed gap for acrylic makeup storage units!

Caboodles “It” Bag in Femme Fatale: If I had to close my eyes and dream up my “ideal” travel cosmetic bag, this would be it. I prefer to travel as simple as possible, so I want a bag that can hold everything I need to bring, but not take up the entire trunk of the car. As a beauty addict, I have a hard time choosing what to bring when I travel, and sometimes want to bring far too much. This bag has the perfect amount of space for everything that I need to bring, and it perfectly breaks up each and every section of the bag. There is a section for your makeup brushes that has a slinky holder for each brush, which is huge for me because my makeup brushes are always laying at the bottom of my makeup bags. It has gorgeous netting and zippers to keep certain items in place and protect them from breaking or spilling out onto other products. It also comes with a mirror, which is great for quick touch-ups or in case of emergency. Though this bag has many compartments, it is also the ideal size: not too big, not too small. I can easily fit my hair straightener into the largest compartment of this bag, which means this is my be-all-end-all toiletry and makeup bag for traveling now. I’m sure my husband will thank me (or Caboodles).

Overall: Caboodles is still an amazing company that provides beautiful, fun, feminine makeup storage at a great value. I’m very proud that this brand is still going strong. My New Favorite Find: Manna Kadar Cosmetics Powder Blush, “Orgasmic,” Photographs & Swatches

Manna Kadar Cosmetics has some gorgeous makeup in their collection, but when it comes to blush, they have this on lock-down. Orgasmic is a stunning pink-peach blush with a luminous golden sheen. It is universally flattering on every single skin tone, and it brightens your complexion like you wouldn’t believe. I’m a newbie to the actual cosmetics line, but their motto is “beauty simplified,” which for my busy lifestyle is always appreciated. This blush can also be used as an eyeshadow, and it would be especially amazing for those of us with blue or green eyes. This blush takes over the spot where NARS “Orgasm” was, because it’s every bit as pretty, and every bit as flattering. To see photographs and swatches,

Orgasmic is a pinky-peach powder blush with a golden sheen to it. Honestly, after trying this blush, I wish I hadn’t splurged on my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick. This blush is soft and velvety, and has really great color payoff. It glides over your skin and adds a really pretty sheen when the light hits it. The color doesn’t lean too warm or too cool, so every complexion can get away with using this. I also love that this blush acts like a highlighter for your face with the shimmer it has, too. It adds the perfect glow to your skin for the spring and summer!

The blush will work with a variety of makeup looks, as well, which is what I look for when looking for a “holy grail” blush. This will work well with a natural look, a smokey eye, and even really colorful eye makeup looks because it won’t compete. The formula is a dream to work with, feeling silky smooth but never too powdery.

How stunning is that? I love the “lit-from-within” glow it gives when it hits the light. It’s a truly beautiful peach blush.

Overall: I’m a really big fan of this blush and the way it complements my skin tone and many makeup looks. After testing out this blush I will definitely be purchasing other blush colors from Manna Kadar Cosmetics. They have a really beautiful selection of shades that look as though they would be universally flattering for those of all ethnicities, as well.

Met Gala Makeup 2012: Dianna Agron, Metallic Smokey Eyes

The Metropolitan Museum’s annual Costume Institute Gala was held last night, and it is the perfect runway for stars to show up in their best. This, of course, means tons of inspiration for hair, makeup, and fashion. It’s so fun to see the dazzling ball gowns, the dolled-up faces, and who tries new trends or stays classic. Last night there were a ton of stars rocking a vampy, dark red lip, and it was full on glamour. Dianna Agron, the gorgeous beauty from Glee, was a vision in a bright green gown, and beautiful metallic eye makeup. She is always someone I look forward to seeing on any red carpet because she always has really great makeup and isn’t afraid to try new things. I recreated this look because it’s the perfect makeup for wearing out on the town or for a big event. It’s sultry, it’s smokey, and it’s has super shine power. The Look:

Perfect your skin. Prep your skin as you usually do with foundation and/or concealer. Lightly bronze your face and apply a gorgeous shimmering peachy-pink blush onto the apples of your cheeks, blending toward the hairline. The rosy cheeks help add a sweetness to the metallic smokey eyes. Use a highlighter down the center of your nose, on your cupid’s bow near your lips, and onto the upper portion of your cheekbones. Dianna’s look has very youthful, feminine, glowing skin.
Get ready for the eyeshadow! I used all mineral eyeshadow for this look because they perform so well for metallic looks. I wet my makeup brush and packed on Bare Minerals in “Queen Tiffany” (a metallic mauve-brown) over my entire eyelid, into the crease, and slightly onto my brow-bone. Also apply this shade onto your lower lash area, and apply it quite heavily and thick. We really want the lower lash area to reflect that metallic light. I also used Bare Minerals in “Radiant Rebecca” on my lower lash-line because it is a gold-bronze shade and I applied it just in the center of my lower lash-line and in the inner corner a bit. Blend the two shades together with your pencil brush. Then, take a fluffy blending brush and blend only the very top of the brow-bone shade out. We don’t want to take away the metallic shimmer from “Queen Tiffany,” but rather soften the edges and make the brow-bone area look more like a dark brown rather than full-on metallic. This is a great way to make it look like you are wearing two eyeshadow shades with only one!
The black eyeliner makes the look. Dianna has a black eyeliner applied along her upper lash-line, and it has major shimmer/sparkle to it. You can use anything you have in your collection. I used Fyrinnae’s “Immortality” which is a multi-colored sparkle black. I wet a stiff eyeliner brush and applied the color along my upper lash line. This creates a smokey effect that is super sparkly. I kept my black eyeliner a bit closer to my lash-line than Dianna did because she has more lid space than me, and I wanted you to still be able to see the metallic eyelid when my eyes are open.
Lighten up your lower water-line. If you have a white or flesh-toned eyeliner, go ahead and apply it to your lower water-line like Dianna has. I applied a flesh-toned liner there to open up my eyes a little bit.
Apply mascara generously. I applied about 3-4 coats of mascara, and I also applied it to my lower lashes, smudging it into the lash-line slightly like Dianna!
Get a pretty pink pout! Apply a light, neutral, glossy pink shade to your lips. I used Rimmel Lip Liner in “Eastend Snob.” Then, I applied some clear lip gloss over top of the color.

Five Minute Makeup Monday: Charlize Theron Inspired Bold Fuchsia Pink Lips

This look was requested by lovely Beauty Gala reader Carly, and she even sent me the photograph of Charlize Theron to show how much she loved this makeup. It’s absolutely stunning, and best of all, it will take you less than five minutes to do! I used all drugstore products to achieve this look, and I was able to finish this off in a lightning-fast record amount of time. The skin is glowing and perfected with a dab of bright pink blush on the upper portion of the cheekbones. To see how to achieve this look and what products I used,

The Look:

Perfected skin. Since the look is very light everywhere but the lips, perfected skin will really pop with this look. Even if you don’t have perfect skin, go ahead and fake it! I used Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-1 Foundation in 155 – Soft Honey to achieve an even skin tone. I purchased this product recently and I already love it. It’s moisturizing but still keeps my oily skin at bay. It feels super smooth and helps perfect any fine lines, blemishes, or discoloration. If you need to, go ahead and apply concealer under your eyes, around your nose and mouth, and on any blemishes directly.
Bronze, baby! Charlize Theron always has a gorgeous glow to her skin. Apply a bronzer and sweep your brush mimicking the number “3″ from your temples to underneath your cheekbones to under your jaw. This will give a bit of color to the face and add a beautiful luminosity. I used Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster Bronzer.
Flush your cheeks. I love that Charlize is wearing her blush further back on her cheekbones, giving her that sculpted look. Apply a bright pink blush but avoid the apples of your cheeks, instead applying further back and upward toward your temple. This will create a sculpted look that makes your cheekbones look higher. I used Physician’s Formula pH Blush which reacts to your skin to create the perfect pink shade for you.
Keep your eyes bare. Charlize has the tiniest amount of a light neutral brown on her eyelid and into her crease. I used my Wet n Wild “Walking on Eggshells” palette for this and applied the light brown shade very lightly on my eyelid and crease. I also lightly brushed this onto my bottom lash line for the tiniest amount of shadow and definition in that area. To bring light and attention to your eyes, apply a light champagne shade with some shimmer in it to your brow-bone. Curl your lashes and apply mascara to your upper lashes only.
Pack a punch with fuchsia lips. This is the main focus of the look so be sure your lips are prepped and ready for a bright, bold color. I used Revlon Lip Butter in “Lollipop” for this look, and it is almost dead-on with Charlize’s color. The product naturally has a sheen to it so you won’t need to add any clear lip gloss on top for a shine. The fuchsia shade is going to tie everything together and be the focus of the look.

The Finished Look:

This look is perfect for wearing with a headband or an updo. Charlize Theron hit this one out of the park by wearing her hair up with slightly backcombed hair and a headband. The end result is flawless, bronzed skin and bright, bold lips that beg to be the center of attention. This is perfect for a night out with the girls, or even a fun date night on the boardwalk! This look is also perfectly on trend for spring and summer, as well. Best of all, it takes less than five minutes to achieve, and you can easily get this look with inexpensive drugstore products!

Zoya Surf Collection, Summer 2012, Photographs & Swatches

The other half to Zoya’s Summer 2012 line is the Surf Collection. This one contains six nail lacquers that have a metallic shimmer to them, whereas the “Beach Collection,” is all cremes. I have to be completely honest here for a minute…I was not expecting to like this collection as much as I liked the Beach set. For some reason, they just didn’t appeal to me as much in the actual nail polish bottles. Once I started applying these on my actual nails, though, it was a whole different ball game. These are super opaque and rich in color, and they glow like crazy in the sunlight. You’ll see what I mean after seeing all the gorgeous swatches,

Rory is a purple-pink lilac (plilac?) with loads of metallic shimmer in it. The shimmer adds some extra oomph to an otherwise classic shade. Unfortunately, the sun was going down when I was swatching the first three of these nail polishes, and I couldn’t capture just how much these light up. The last three polishes are in full on sunshine, and you can really get an idea of how beautiful the metallic shimmer in these colors are. Below is two coats.

Rory

Carly is a grape purple with tons of metallic light purple and silver shimmer in it. Of course you know that I love this shade because it’s purple. It really is one of those gorgeous shades that really lights up in the center of your nail, though, and while it is a bit darker than I expect for summer collection, it’s still really pretty.

Kimber is a strawberry pink with reflective gold shimmer. Stunning. This one reminds me of China Glaze “Strawberry Fields,” except I think this one is much prettier. It has that golden reflect to it in the light, and it plays off the strawberry pink shade perfectly.

Myrta is a tangerine coral with silver shimmer in it. It’s a pretty shade, and it really glows on the nails. Tangerine is hot, hot, hot right now! This is the start of my swatches in the actual sunshine, so take note of how bold and bright these all look in the sunlight!

Meg is a green with metallic silver shimmer in it. This shade, along with every shade in this collection, required only two coats to be perfectly opaque and rich in color. I also like that even though these shades are somewhat metallic, they don’t show major brush streaks like a lot of metallics do.

Zuza is a bright turquoise with metallic silver and lighter blue shimmer in it. Oh. My. God. This shade made my jaw drop. It’s so stunningly bright and vibrant, and it reminds me of a crystal clear pool that is sparkling in the hot sunshine during the summertime. Obsessed!

Overall: If you prefer shimmering, metallic shades, then you will enjoy “Surf” more than “Beach” by Zoya. Every shade was perfectly opaque and the formula was a dream.
