I typically don’t blog on the weekends, not because I don’t have plenty to blog about, but because I enjoy clearing my brain during the weekend and tapping into my creativity through relaxation. I end up feeling really refreshed and ready to start the week by Sunday night because I miss posting on here! I decided to start a “Weekend Style,” column where I post random musings, as well as what I did that weekend, and even recent style purchases. I know this is a beauty website but it seems like fashion and beauty sing perfect harmonies together so I figured I’d include it. This morning, I woke up early to attend a self-defense class at a martial arts center with a few other ladies. I’ve never been to one before, or even considered it, but it was incredibly educational, and I walked away feeling even more confident than usual. To read more about my self-defense class, two recent style purchases (neon, of course!), and my new hair color,
The self-defense class I took was honestly really incredible. It really opened my eyes to just how many of us (women, especially) always think, “It won’t be me,” when it comes to being attacked. Yet there were about fifty women in the room, and several women came forward to share their personal stories of being assaulted. The instructor and owner of the martial arts studio is a seventh degree black belt, and had spent almost his entire lifetime devoted to martial arts and self-defense. He taught us to walk confidently and tall, as well as how to defend ourselves through going for the eyes, the nose, and the throat area, if attacked. I have to admit that I completely went into the class with the “It will never happen to me, but I’ll go anyway” attitude, and I walked out with a completely humbled attitude. The most important thing he taught us is to be aware of your surroundings, especially if you are alone or it is dark outside. No one ever thinks it will happen to them, but it could, and if it does, it is better to be prepared.
If you ever have a chance to attend a free self-defense class, I highly recommend attending it. The instructor was incredibly helpful, respectful, and really gave a plethora of information.
Now to the less serious part of my day…
Afterward I got to eat a delicious lunch with my family and do the “Target crawl.” I don’t know about you, but I can go into any Target and just walk around the entire store, not needing anything, but inevitably buying something. I ended up with some neon pink wayfayer sunglasses. NEON, NEON, NEON! I cannot even begin to explain how obsessed I am with this trend.
They have a clear acrylic frame around the front, but the arms are neon pink and the actual lenses are super blue and reflective. The photograph above didn’t capture how reflective and blue they are, but never fear, I’ve got plenty more pictures!
I love that you can see the reflection of the curtains in my makeup room/office! I’ve been searching for a pair of neon wayfarer sunglasses lately that have the really obvious reflective lenses, but none of them have looked right on my face until now. Luckily, these cost me $10 (on sale from $12.99) at Target!
You may or may not have noticed a brand new hair color on me. I always like to joke that I have “Multiple Hair Personality Disorder.” Seriously, I change my hair all the time. I just get bored or I inevitably see pictures of other hair colors and end up being inspired to change mine. Since it’s been hot here in the south for quite some time now, I felt like I needed to add some blonde highlights to my face area. I personally feel like it allows me to wear less makeup, and makes me look more youthful than super vampy, dark hair. When it gets colder (sometime in November this year) I may go back darker completely, but for now I am enjoying my new hair.
I actually did my hair completely by myself. I had over an inch of roots so I applied a light-brown/dark blonde hair dye over my entire head with a 20 volume developer. This lightened my overall base color to a light brown, almost a dark blonde. Then, I applied my own chunky highlights using foils and a rat-tail comb to separate small sections of my hair out. I ended up with a very sunkissed blonde look around my face only. It took a little getting used to at first since I had been a dark brunette for almost a year straight, but it really helped add a glow to my skin. I’ve had several people compliment my skin and “makeup” lately when I’ve been wearing very little to none, so it’s totally the hair color!
As a final piece of excitement, I bought these earrings from an online shop called Pree Brulee. I originally saw these earrings on Pinterest (click to follow me), and I bought them because I fell head over heels for them. They’re neon, they’re bright, and they’re super happy. Pree Brulee has a wonderful website, and after browsing even more, I realized I want everything in their store! I’ve never heard of them before this, but I’ll definitely be buying from them again because they had excellent customer service and very quick shipping. These particular earrings are no longer available, but I definitely recommend checking out their website if you’re a jewelry lover. Everything is gorgeous and well-priced!
Aren’t they exotic and unique? I love them! I could easily stare at them and just be happy.
The rest of my weekend consists of relaxing, relaxing, and relaxing. I’ve had such a whirlwind week of work that I am looking forward to sleeping in a little bit tomorrow and enjoying a fun Saturday night. As I always say, “Work hard, play hard!” I hope you all are having an amazing weekend!

I’d love to have a mooch around Target with you. That’s one of things I really miss about being in the US!
