Last night I couldn’t fall asleep because I had taken a (longer than expected) nap earlier on in the evening. The first thing I did was take out my Urban Decay Vice Palette and start playing! I would ideally like to do a few different looks on here using the palette so you can get an idea of how versatile and high quality the palette is. For this look, I decided to go with a Metal Mania appeal. I used a bright gold with a sparkly olive-taupe in the crease to create a fresh spin on a smokey eye. The eyeshadow is so buttery and smooth that it’s such a pleasure working with this palette. I feel like it almost does all of the work for me!
Above is a guide with the eyeshadow shades I used highlighted in hot pink squares. Here is how to achieve the look:
- Apply “Blitz” (top row, second from right) to your entire eyelid, up to your crease. Apply this shade along your entire lower lash-line as well.
- Apply “Jagged” (top row, third from right) into your crease with a blending brush. Work this shade into your crease, slowly building the color up to be more and more intense. I blended this shade upward toward my brow-bone a bit for a more dramatic look. Also, apply this shade with the same brush to the outer half of your lower lash-line to add a bit of smokiness under the eye.
- Apply “Black Market” (second row, far right) to the outer third of your eye only, blending it out in a circular motion. We only want to darken the small sideways “V” that your eyelid and crease create. I also applied a tiny bit of this shade to the very outer corner of my lower lash-line for continuity.
- Apply “Echo Beach” (bottom row, second from left) to the inner corners of your eyes and underneath your brows, using it to help blend any edges from your crease color.
- Apply black eyeliner to your waterline, as well as to your upper lash-line, winging it out into a cat eye. Apply mascara.
You could easily switch this look up by skipping the eyeliner on your waterline and applying a flesh-toned eyeliner instead. You can also always skip the cat-liner on your upper lash line. Doing either of these will help make the look less intense and dramatic, and a little more sweet. I personally feel like this is the perfect metallic smokey eye, so I piled on the eyeliner for effect!
I read on another beauty blog that the color “Jagged” wasn’t good quality or didn’t work well on the actual eye. I actually found the opposite to be true. It does have a small amount of fallout, as do a lot of glittery/shimmery eyeshadows, but this was perfectly easy to build up and blend out. I love “Jagged” and I think it’s still a wonderful eyeshadow shade in the palette!
I’m probably going to be using this palette all weekend long, so stay tuned for more looks using this palette. If you missed my full review, photographs, and swatches of the palette, click here!

First, you have BEAUTIFUL eyes! I love the color combination and can’t wait to try it. I just got my vice palette in the mail and fell in love with the vibrant colors! What i want to know is, how can i make my eyeshadow smooth like yours? Before applying, i use a skin moisturizer, primer for the eyes and then the shadow. But my shadow ends up looking unsmooth.

Hi BlueHeart, thank you so much! I am trying think of what could cause the eyeshadow to look unsmooth. My first guess would be if the eyelids are too dry and there are patches of dry skin there, but you said you moisturize and apply a primer. What kind of brushes are you using to apply the product? If I’m using certain brushes, sometimes the product doesn’t evenly blend or dispense the way I want it to to, making it look patchy.

Hi! Your first guess was right! I was experiencing dryness from retinol and freulic acid, which i’ve toned down since. The application of the shadows is much btter now. Thanks!
