Too Faced “The Return of Sexy” Palette, Photographs, Review, & Swatches

I was having an extremely stressful day last week and all I wanted was some retail therapy (don’t judge me), so off to Sephora I went. I think I was restless and exhausted because I almost didn’t find anything I really wanted and nothing was catching my eye. The last aisle in my Sephora has a Too Faced display, and low behold, this palette was sitting there in all of its dazzling beauty. The Return of Sexy Palette was screaming my name and I had to have it. After playing around with the shades in it, I have to legitimately say that I think this is my favorite palette release since Urban Decay’s “Naked 2″ palette which came out last December. I love the way the palette is broken up into three color combinations, which lends itself a much more luxurious feel (Lancome, anyone?). As usual, the shadows are soft and pillow-like on my eyes, and super pigmented. To see this mighty foxy palette in detail,

The Packaging:

It’s clear by all means that Too Faced brought sexy back with this palette. It is separated into three sections by color combinations and inspired by their favorite beauties and bombshells from the past and present. Each section has a specific name: “The Ingenue,” “The Icon,” and “The Bombshell.” Of course, mixing and matching the shades in this palette is just as fun as sticking with the color combinations they give you!

The Extra’s:

The palette also comes with a full-size Perfect Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner in black, which I LOVE! This eyeliner is so creamy and smooth, and feels like a gel in a pencil. The eyeliner has a smudger on the other end, as well, making it perfect to travel with. I have used this eyeliner before and I really like it. It stays put all day and doesn’t venture out of my waterline and under my eyes.

The palette also comes with a deluxe-sample size of their famous Shadow Insurance Eye Primer, which I already use under all of my eyeshadow on a daily basis. It not only helps your eyeshadow stay put all day long, but it makes the colors show up much more vibrant.

Too Faced includes 3 “How-To” cards with 6 different makeup looks with the palette. This is actually a fairly new thing that makeup companies have been doing, and I think it’s so helpful for those days when you’re feeling uninspired, tired, or even if you’re simply a beginner at makeup and don’t know where to start.

The Eyeshadow Shades:

The Return of Sexy Palette contains three “sections” of color coordinating eyeshadow shades, for a total of fifteen eyeshadows in the entire palette. You can use these shades wet for a more intense finish/look, or you can use them dry. I’ve used them both wet and dry, and I honestly feel like these are vibrant enough even while dry. What more can you ask for? Opaque, pigmented, soft eyeshadow is always a hit.

The Ingenue

The Ingenue contains gorgeous neutral shades that will light up your eyes. I think of Audrey Hepburn, a classic, yet innocent and understated beauty, as one of the most famous Hollywood ingenue’s. A shimmering off-white, a cool chocolate brown, a warm toffee, a bright yellow-gold, and a shimmering dark brown top off this section. You can never go wrong with a neutral colored smokey eye, or even a more natural look for the daytime. These are such universal, alluring shades. I’m a sucker for sparkling, shimmery dark browns…so that bottom shade is hitting my sweet spot. It’s LOVE!

The Icon

The Icon is all about the purple. Now, if you’ve been reading my blog for any lengthy amount of time, you’ll know that I have a very unhealthy obsession with the color purple. Anything and everything I own has to be purple, and purple eyeshadow…well, you guessed it, HAS-TO-BE-MINE! This is my personal favorite group of shadows, and personally what caught my eye first. Also, since this group of eyeshadows has names like “Pink Diamond,” and “Divorcee,” not to mention VIOLET, I’m going to say it’s all about Elizabeth Taylor. There is a shimmery baby pink, a pink-purple shimmer, a dark grey, a shimmery vibrant violet (!), and a dark sparkling purple. I really wish I could choose my favorite shade in this bunch, but I adore them all. These are just as good as it gets when it comes to pigmentation.

The Bombshell

The Bombshell is the group that should be a staple in every woman’s makeup arsenal. I believe every woman should own a group of eyeshadow that can create a classic, bombshell smokey eye. The names of these eyeshadows give away who they are inspired by: 7 Year Itch, Bombshell, Hollywood, Maneater, Beautymark. While Marilyn Monroe rarely wore shimmer on her eyes, this is 2012 after all, so this is the perfect modern day interpretation. These ones are super pigmented and really put down great color in just one swipe.

Overall: I can’t find a single fault with this palette. You get a healthy mix of neutral shades, dark shades, and vibrant shades, all in one palette. They all perform beautifully when swatched, and they’re cheekily named after great beauties of the past! The addition of the full-size waterproof eyeliner and the deluxe-size sample of their eyeshadow primer makes this a win-win purchase.
