One of my favorite new releases is the tarte Tartelette Matte Eyeshadow Palette. This is such a gorgeous group of eyeshadow shades and they are all matte, for those of you who love a matte finish. There are twelve eyeshadow shades total, and they are all in the neutral family, from champagne beiges to muted plums to dark browns. I’ve got full swatches, my thoughts, and a makeup tutorial and look inside for you using this palette!
The Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette consists of twelve matte eyeshadow shades. What I love about these especially is that they are cruelty-free and formulated without parabens and artificial ingredients. Tarte is a brand known for making more natural makeup, so if you’ve got sensitive eyes or you just want something without harsh chemicals, it’s a great choice for you.
Each eyeshadow has a name underneath it, and the “tarte” brand logo stamped into it. Honestly, this is just a beautiful palette to look at. There’s something about matte shades that is so timeless and chic. I love how they included browns, muted plums, and some grey-tones in the palette, as well.
SWATCHES:
FIRST ROW: This row has your classic neutral brown shades, starting with a champagne beige and ending with a super dark chocolate brown. I love the shade second from the left as a transition shade! All of these were pigmented and soft. If you dip your fingers into any of these shades, you’re going to feel how soft and plush these are. A lot of matte eyeshadow shades are formulated with a really hard, chalky formula and tarte got these just right.
SECOND ROW: The muted violets and plums of the group are stunning. These types of purple shades will work on absolutely everyone, and they are appropriate for all ages. If you’re a professional or prefer to wear more conservative makeup, this row contains some gorgeous “grown-up shades” for you to play with that are outside the realm of brown.
LAST ROW: The last row is a bit of a toss-up between colors. I cannot tell you how divine that matte black shade is. It is, hands down, the most pigmented matte black eyeshadow I own. One swipe of this with your finger and you’ve got intense, opaque, rich coverage. I was extremely impressed.
THE MAKEUP LOOK: This is what I affectionately refer to as “The Grown-Up Smokey Eye.” It’s great for professionals of all ages and is classic.
- Apply Shade 1 to your crease and socket and blend upward generously.
- Apply Shade 2 into the crease of your eye only, mainly focusing this shade on the outer half of your eye crease. Apply this shade to your lower lash-line as well.
- Apply Shade 3 to the outer-third of your crease only and start to create that smokey outer-third part of your eye.
- Using Shade 4, darken up the outer edges of your eyelids and lower lash-line to really smoke out the look. Use this shade sparingly because it is VERY pigmented.
- Apply Shade 5 to your entire eyelid and the inner corners of your eyes.
- Go back with Shade 6 and blend out Shade 1 and Step 1 with this color. Also blend out your lower lash-line with this shade.
- Use Shade 7 on your brow-bone for a matte finish.
To finish off the look, I applied a flesh-toned eyeliner to my water-line, lightly lined my upper lashes, and applied false lashes.
THE FINISHED LOOK:
I love the effect the Tartelette Matte Eyeshadow Palette gives. The shades are pigmented, rich, smooth, and blend well. You’ve got a great variety of matte shades in it and it’s perfect for the person looking for classic, timeless, sophisticated makeup.
The tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette is available at Sephora stores nationwide and online at Sephora here. Each palette retails for $44.00USD each.

So pretty! It looks so nice and blended. Usually mattes give me some trouble with blending, but these look great!

I’m new to eye makeup, and I got this palette. While I’m putting it on I feel like I’m really layering on a ton of it, but it barely shows up on my skin. I am using the Urban Decay eyelid primer beforehand. Am I just not using enough eyeshadow? Do I need to layer it on more? Are there any tricks to this?
