Summer 2011 Lookbook: Zoya Mod Matte Nail Polish Collection

One of Zoya’s brand new additions is their Mod Matte Nail Polish Collection. While I am not usually a huge fan of matte nail polish, Zoya has managed to completely change my mind with this collection. Deciding to bring us 3 punchy colors, they break up the monotony of the boring black or gray matte nail polish we see everywhere. Not only are the colors vibrant and intense, but the formula is smooth as butter, and the finish is actually more of a velvet matte rather than looking very flat. To see photographs and swatches,

Mitzi

Mitzi is a murky yellow-lime green with a velvet matte finish. I use the word “murky” because it almost has that slight swamp-green tone to it, yet it is bright and intense. This shade is very pigmented, and I was able to use only 2 coats (as I did with all 3 of these polishes).

Lolly

Lolly is a vivid, intense bright pink with a velvet matte finish. This shade is gorgeous, and I love the way it looks with a velvety matte finish. It comes off as looking feminine, but also just a bit edgy and unusual, since most people expect to see bright pink polish with a shiny top coat. I like unusual polishes, and I will typically try any and all nail polish colors and trends. This is a polish I absolutely adore. This also had a wonderfully vibrant, opaque formula, and I needed only 2 coats.

Phoebe

Phoebe is a vivid bright blue with a slight violet sheen to it. I know, sheen in a matte? It sounds impossible, but there is a bit of a sheen if you look closely into this color. Once again, the formula is a dream, and applied smoothly in just 2 coats. I also love this one to pieces because it looks so vivid and lustrous on the nails.

As with all matte nail polishes, you can always add a top coat if you want the polish to be shiny. To demonstrate, I put a top coat just along the tip of my nail where a French manicure would be. In fact, there are some very cool looking manicures out there that have a matte nail with a shiny tip!

My only recommendation is to make sure you buff your nails smooth before you use matte nail polish. Just like paint, whenever the finish is matte, any bumps or imperfections will show much more easily. In the above swatches you can see I have a nick on my pointer finger from when I cut my nail cooking by accident. Matte nail polish does tend to not last as long as nail polish with a top coat, but you can prolong the wear by making sure you use a good base coat.

The Zoya Mod Matte Nail Polish Collection is currently available on the Zoya Website Online. You can also follow Zoya on Twitter, as well as Fan them on Facebook. One thing about Zoya is that they have incredible customer service and customer loyalty. Thank you Jade! I love the colors, too. Bright mattes make me happy for some reason!
