I have a really awesome husband. I mean, really awesome. He actually went into Ulta and scouted this palette out for me on his lunch break while he was by himself, and purchased it for me. How many men would actually walk into Ulta by themselves and purchase makeup? Needless to say, he won major kudos for picking this palette up for me. It happened to be the last one they had in stock, and since I’m a massive fan of Too Faced Cosmetics and all of their releases, I knew I had to get my hands on their A La Mode Palette for Spring 2014. The packaging is, of course, adorable in typical Too Faced fashion. The eyeshadow shades are pigmented and velvety soft, and the possibilities for looks are endless.
First up, the packaging. Could it be any cuter? I love Too Faced for their packaging as much as for their high quality products. They always put time and thought into the colors and design. The tin the eyeshadow shades come in just screams spring and summer to me.
All of the eyeshadow shades are St.Tropez inspired. There are 6 eyeshadow shades to the right of the palette and 3 larger sized shades to the left, which can be used for the both eyes and as a highlight on the skin.
First up, the shades on the left side of the palette. These are classic shades that every woman should own. You can use them as an all-over lid color when you want your eyes to look bigger or more awake, but you can also use them in the inner corners of your eyes, as a brow-bone highlight, as a cheek highlight, and in the middle of your lip color to make your lips look larger. These 3 shades are classic, pigmented, and perfect for the spring and summer. You can even brush one of these shades on your neck and collarbone area for some added shimmer. They’re versatile and really gorgeous.
The shades on the right side of the palette are a nice toss-up. You have a lot of soft, shimmering neutrals that are great for a simple smokey eye or a daytime look, and then you’ve got a hot fuchsia pink shimmer and a dark navy blue. All of these were super pigmented, which is typical for Too Faced. I especially love that shade in the middle of the palette, “Jardin,” which reminds me of NARS’ Orgasm. It’s great for using as a blush on the cheeks, a highlight shade for the cheekbones, or even as a lip color. It’s that gorgeous peachy-pink with a gold reflect which really looks good on every single person.
For this eye look, I used Jardin, the peachy-pink in my socket and blended it generously upward toward my brow-bone. I applied Soleil in the crease of my eye only with a precision crease brush. I applied Cannes to my entire eyelid and lower lash-line. To really make everything pop, I applied St.Tropez with a wet makeup brush into the inner corners of my eyes. I used a flesh colored eyeliner along my lower water-line, and used a shimmering brown liquid eyeliner on my upper lash-line. I added cat-eye falsies to make the eye makeup pop, as well. The overall finished look is very warm, shimmering, soft, and ethereal looking.
I mixed 2 MAC lip shades together, “Peachstock,” and “Viva Glam Nicki.” To complement the eye makeup, I kept the blush pink and shimmery. I also contoured and highlighted my face.
The finished look is perfect for warm spring and summer days and nights coming.
The Too Faced A La Mode Palette is limited edition for Spring 2014 and is available at Ulta stores nationwide, as well as online at Ulta’s website. Each palette retails for $36.00 USD.
