Spring 2011 Lookbook: Essie “Topless & Barefoot” Nail Polish Swatches

The Spring 2011 Essie Collection is called A French Affair and is composed of six shades inspired by wine, sand, and endless shopping. The shades are very light and airy, and are perfect for the warmer weather and sunshine. My personal favorite from this collection is “Topless & Barefoot,” shown above. It is a gorgeous nude beige that applies flawlessly opaque to the nails in just 2 coats. It complements every single skin tone from fair to dark, and makes your fingers look long and elegant. Topless & Barefoot is a pale beige nude nail polish that has a perfect formula. Many shades that are nudes tend to be runny, too thick, or not opaque enough. This shade perfectly covers nails in just 2 coats, giving your nails a rich, creamy latte color. The shade is very elegant and sophisticated, and while it is understated, it is still super sexy. You can dress this shade up by applying a sparkle top coat, nail art, rhinestones, or even painting just one finger a different color (such as your ring finger). This shade would also look wonderful as a French or half-moon manicure. I personally love wearing this shade by itself because it makes my fingers look much longer than they are, and the shade makes my skin tone look glowing and tan.

I cannot stress how flattering this shade is on everyone. It has a slight pink tone in it, making it perfect for every complexion from fair to dark. I have seen this shade on dark skin tones and looks absolutely stunning! Also, the formula impressed me like crazy considering most pastel and light shades usually have problematic formula’s. This one applied wonderfully and allowed me to paint my nails in under ten minutes. With a top coat, you’re looking at gorgeous, shiny nude nails!

The Spring 2011 Essie Nail Polish Collection is available at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide (i.e, Walmart, Ulta, Walgreens). There are six shades in the French Affair collection, and they can be viewed here. You can also purchase these polishes online, but since Essie prices don’t tend to be discounted at e-tailers, I buy mine in-person now that Essie is selling at stores like Walmart and Walgreens for only $7.

I really like these creamy clay coloured shades but are you sure it would look good on pale skin? You seem to have more colour to your skin than me!

Absolutely! I actually made a few of my family members try this on…my mom is paler than I am, and it looked great on her. Made her look like she had piano fingers! My niece, who is half African-American also tried it, and it looked amazing on her, too. Even with my skin tone (which is olive, but doesn’t really get good color unless I use sunless tanner and until the sping/summer), it looks very nude on me…but it is very flattering because of the pinkish undertones. It reminds me of the difference between Lady Gaga Viva Glam II and MAC Blankety lipstick which I did on here…Viva Glam Gaga II is very much a pure brown beige, whereas Blankety has a slightly pink tone to it…making Blankety more flattering, in my opinion!
