The Smashbox Double Exposure Palette was recently launched on Sephora’s website for VIB Rouge members. I knew I had to have it immediately because their Full Exposure Palette is absolutely gorgeous and I use it every single day. This palette includes fourteen shades and it is unique because you can wear every shade “wet” for a different look. Using an eyeshadow with a wet brush isn’t a new concept, but it is really cool because many eyeshadow shades completely transform and change when applied wet versus dry. I’ve used shades that look like an entirely different product before once they were applied wet. In return, this palette gives you a lot of bang for your buck because you’re actually getting more than just fourteen shades!
This palette comes with a travel-size mascara and a Smashbox dual-ended brush (which I love!). There are fourteen shades total and when you open up the palette, there is an insert showing you how the shades change when they are applied wet. I swatched every shade dry and then swatched every shade wet just underneath. Here are the swatches:
TOP ROW:
The top row is going to be amazing for those of you who work in an office or prefer more demure shades. They are all immensely pigmented and soft. If you’ve never touched a Smashbox eyeshadow before, you have to dip your finger into one! They are velvety-soft and smooth like butter. Some of the shades changed more dramatically when swatched wet than others. For instance, that bronze shade second from the right really got much darker and more intense. Many of the differences were subtle and really have to be seen in person. Many of the changes were differences in the amount of shimmer or how metallic they were. In general, this top row has an incredible selection of soft shades that are pigmented and smooth.
BOTTOM ROW:
The bottom row has your more dramatic shades that you’d use to darken up or smoke out a look. The darkened navy and violet shades showed a lot more shimmer in them once they were used wet. I also noticed that the bronzed chocolate shade (third from right) became much more intense and rich in color when used wet. The only shades I felt performed better dry were those last two matte shades on the right hand side of my arm. They applied perfectly when dry but a bit patchy when wet. Overall, this bottom row performed just as well as the top and all the shades had great pigmentation.
Overall, this palette is a winner in my book. I love how soft and rich the shades are and that there is a mix of shimmer, satin, and matte shades in the palette.
The Smashbox Double Exposure Palette is currently available at Sephora and Ulta, as well as online at Ulta. It retails for $52.00 USD.
