The Pantone Color of the Year for 2013 is emerald, and I couldn’t be happier with this stunning shade of green. When I was younger, my favorite crayon color in the entire box was a color called “Jungle Green,” and it reminds me so much of this beautiful emerald color. Naturally, when I walked into my local Sephora and saw they had the entire emerald display up, I freaked out a little bit inside and swatched everything. I still want to go back and buy some more from the collection, but it’s safe to say that the Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection is pure perfection. The Lightspeed Glitter Dust in “Emerald” really caught my eye in person, and I knew I had to have it right then and there and do a look on the blog here using it.
To get you in the emerald mood, check out the display at my local Sephora that I snapped a picture of. As someone who loves visual art of any kind, I absolutely adore the photography and the makeup artistry that went into this campaign. As soon as I walked into the store it was like a burst of emerald in my face, and it was very, very alluring.
I think this might be my second favorite color next to purple. I am just absolutely infatuated with it. I remember talking with a friend toward the end of last year on Pinterest, commenting at how much we were in love with all things emerald. It’s just a color that seems to look good on absolutely everything.
The Sephora + Pantone Universe Lightspeed Glitter Dust in Emerald is a finely-milled eye shimmer with intense reflective pigment. The emerald seems to glow a light pinkish-purple shade when you hold it up to the light. When applied wet, it looks even more intense. I just knew I had to have this inside of the store. I swatched this on the back of my hand and all I saw was emerald glitter!
It’s hard to properly capture the beauty of this glitter dust in a photograph. It shimmers pinkish-purple, and it has an intense shine to it. I love that the powder is finely milled rather than chunky because it’s much easier to work with and blend. So, of course, from that very first moment I swatched it in Sephora, I had an idea in my mind of what kind of look I wanted to do with it…
I used a metallic brown in the crease and a metallic olive-green in the inner corners of my eyes. I applied the Lightspeed Glitter Dust in Emerald over my entire eyelid with a wet makeup brush. I applied black eyeliner to my upper lash-line and lower water-line, and added false lashes. The ones I used for this look are the Ardell Demi Wispies, which happen to be my all-time favorite lashes! The overall effect is a massive bright pop of emerald color with more neutral shades in the creases of the eye.
Overall: I am basically in love with this Glitter Dust. I’m MORE than happy that I scooped it up when I did, because I have a feeling this is going to be a hot ticket item from the Sephora + Pantone Collection.
Sephora + Pantone Universe Lightspeed Glitter Dust in Emerald retails for $14.00 USD. It is currently out of stock online at Sephora, but you can sign up for an alert to be notified when it comes back in stock, or simply go to your local Sephora store and pick it up! You can also browse the entire Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection here online. I swatched the eyeshadow palettes from the emerald collection and they are absolutely amazing!
