The second palette that I picked up which is brand new from Maybelline is the Eye Studio Color Plush Eyeshadow Quad in Smokey Night. This one caught my eye because it has these gorgeous darkened jewel-tones that twinkle and shimmer in the light. This look is perfect for anytime you want to feel like a rock-star…a concert, a night out on the town, a party, the possibilities are endless. I don’t wear really smokey eyes very often, so when I do, I feel really glamorous and bad-ass. Also, for those of you who have light eyes, this is going to make them look even lighter and brighter than usual. So break out your leather and studs, and let’s explore this palette,
Smokey Night contains four darkened jewel-tone eyeshadow shades: a chocolate brown with purple shimmer, violet with shimmer, sapphire with blue and purple shimmer, and black with silver shimmer. All of these shades are extremely pigmented, so it’s best to work with a little bit of product at a time. One thing I did notice about this palette is that the shades seem to be a little difficult to differentiate once they are on your actual eye. They almost all look like a dark black shade once they are on your eye, whereas when they are swatched, they each maintain the color they show in the packaging. For this reason, I would say this palette is best used for an overall smokey eye (like the one in this post), or used as a crease or outer corner shade for smoking out a lighter eyelid color.
No performance issues with this palette whatsoever. Every eyeshadow is soft, velvety, and pigmented. The shimmer is absolutely stunning in this palette. It’s got that glamorous rocker chic vibe to it, and it’s the ideal palette for a very dramatic smokey eye.
The Look:
To get this look, I applied the violet shade over the inner half of my eyelid, and the sapphire blue shade over the outer half of my eyelid, being sure to blend the two so there are no harsh lines. Then, I swept the brown shade into my crease and blended it up slightly. Lastly, I used the black shade along my lower lash-line as an eyeliner for a smokey effect. I added black eyeliner to my lower water-line, and added some fun purple glitter eyeliner to my upper lash line to really rock it all out and tie it together.
There is still one more palette from the new Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush Eyeshadow Quad releases that I am missing, which is a palette of green shades. I am going to pass on purchasing that one, however, because I already own so many green eyeshadow palettes, and I don’t typically wear a lot of green eyeshadow.
