Every year Milani Cosmetics clears off their shelves and creates a whole new collection of beauty products. I love how innovative and forward-thinking they are as a cosmetics brand, but I especially love them because they are inexpensive products available at the drug store and have great quality makeup. One of the brand new products for 2015 is the new Milani Matte Lipsticks. There are 8 shades total and each one of them has that super sleek, flat, matte finish to them. I’ve got full swatches and my thoughts inside,
With 8 shades to choose from, there’s something for everyone. I grouped my swatches together by color: nudes/neutrals, pinks, reds, and the lone purple of the bunch. Every single one of these new Milani Matte Lipstick shades was pigmented, smooth, and opaque in just a couple of swipes. These are a fantastic value if you’re looking for matte lipstick that won’t break the bank.
THE RED SHADES:
67 – Matte Confident is a slightly darkened true red. In the packaging, it actually looks like it’s going to be a dark cherry shade but it comes out much brighter than I expected. That being said, it’s a gorgeous, timeless red shade that will never go out of style.
66 – Matte Passion is a fiery orange-toned red. This shade is much more orange-toned and bright than the previous red.
You can see the shades in comparison swatched on the back of my hand. On the left, “Matte Passion” is much more orange-toned and bright.
THE PURPLE SHADE:
65 – Matte Glam is the lone purple shade of the bunch and it’s gorgeous. If you’re into more daring shades, this is going to make you happy.
THE NUDES/NEUTRAL SHADES:
62 – Matte Blissful is a blue-based, cool-toned lavender pink. This actually reminds me a lot of MAC’s Nicki Minaj color “Pink Friday.”
60 – Matte Innocence is a true pinkish-nude shade. It’s a gorgeous color and the finish is very matte, but beware: be sure to prep your lips well before wearing this shade. It will settle into fine lines and any dry patches on your lips as most matte lip products do.
61 – Matte Naked is a brown-based nude shade. It’s gorgeous and sophisticated. This is one of those neutral lipstick shades that is timeless.
Left to right: Matte Naked, Matte Innocence, Matte Blissful. Looking back, I probably should have lumped “Matte Blissful” into the pink category, but it really has quite a neutral and nude look when applied to the lips.
THE PINK SHADES:
64 – Matte Orchid is a hot orchid pink that really looks almost neon on the lips. I was very impressed with the pigmentation!
63 – Matte Diva is a blue-based, cool-toned hot violet pink. It is on FIRE! This will make your teeth look whiter because of the blue tones in it.
You can see that “Matte Orchid” on the left is darker and “Matte Diva” on the right is much more blue-based and cool-toned.
Overall, these are a lovely matte lipstick option for those of you who don’t want to invest a lot of money on lipstick. They are also available at the drugstore, so they are much easier to access than high end products. The collection is really lovely, boasting a variety of colors. Each shade is pigmented, opaque, and smooth.
The Milani Matte Lipsticks are new for 2015 and are available at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide. Each lipstick retails for $5.99USD. You can also purchase these lipsticks online through Milani’s website here.
