The first time I tried magnetic nail polish was when I spotted it in a Sephora store. I was so entranced by the idea that I actually dropped over fifteen dollars on a single bottle of it. Now that the trend has picked up, we see major brands coming out with magnetic nail polish such as the China Glaze Magnetix Collection. China Glaze changes the game up a little bit with a cool little gadget that contains three different magnet designs, as well. Oh, and the price of this nail polish is much more reasonable, at only $5.99 a bottle at Sally Beauty Supply. To see photographs, swatches, and how to use this nail polish,
The magnet has three different designs on it: a star-burst pattern, diagonal stripes/lines, and vertical lines. You can use each one for different nails or you can do the same pattern for your entire manicure.
The back of the magnet has three black blocks where the actual magnets are located. It’s important to try to get the magnet as close to your nail as possible when holding it over your freshly painted nail. However, you don’t want to accidentally touch your wet nail with the magnet so you don’t mess up your nails, but also so you don’t ruin the magnet itself.
Each magnet design has a little cuticle placement holder which molds to the curve of your finger/cuticle. You can rest it onto the end of your cuticle and hold the magnet over your nail to apply the magnetic design. I typically hold the magnet over my nail for ten seconds to ensure the design is in place. Again, you have to make sure each nail is still wet when you hold it over your nail. I do each nail individually for this reason.
After ten seconds, you’ll notice the design is in place. Go ahead and apply a top coat and you’re done! You can play around with the designs by holding them in different directions or twirling them as you hold them over your wet nail. I’ve been experimenting with the magnet myself. The color polish in this post is “Cling On,” a metallic olive-gray. I only needed one coat of the actual nail polish to get opaque coverage. I used the star-burst pattern over each wet nail and held it for ten seconds. My final look is pretty unique and cool, and garnered quite a few compliments and questions.
