As a beauty blogger and hobbyist, I’ve probably tried hundreds of liquid eyeliner, everything from felt tip pens to gels to liquid brushes and in between. The problem with eyeliner is that it is definitely either hit or miss…either you love the formula and application, or you hate it. Milani Cosmetics Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner is a new product that has a small, pointed felt tip to it, yet puts down intense, pigmented color. I have sensitive eyes, and certain eyeliner can really irritate my eye area, but this one passed with flying colors. I also loved the ease of use, because it’s so easy to tip this product to the side for a small, precise line. I decided to put together a Modern Pin-up Makeup Look, meaning, matte, contoured eyes with thick, black, cat-winged eyeliner and bright, bold lips. My modern spin? The insanely bright lips are hot fuchsia pink instead of classic red. To see how to achieve this look, as well as plenty more photographs,
My Milani Eye Tech Extreme Liquid Eyeliner is in Blackest Black. I love the felt tip of this product because it’s soft enough for your eye area, but still firm enough to help any beginner create the perfect line. Honestly, I felt like I was using a marker and drawing with this product which really relaxed the muscles in my arm and hand, helping me place the felt tip in the right spots. Even I can find liquid eyeliner challenging at times if the product has a strange or ineffective applicator. This was really fast and easy, and I was able to create a perfect line with a cat-eye flick at the end.
When going over the line, or getting in the inner corner of my eye, I simply turned the felt tip on its side, creating a thin, long applicator. It puts out the perfect amount of product at a time, too. I’ve used felt tips in the past that put out too little product (frustrating!) or too much product (ouch, my eye is oozing black gunk!). This really is my ideal eyeliner product and I was quickly able to create pin-up liner across my upper lash line.
The Modern Pin-up Makeup Look:
The key to pin-up makeup is to keep the eyeshadow as matte as possible, and subtly contour the crease of your eye area with a brown shade. If your skin tone is medium or dark, you will need to use a darker brown shade to achieve that contoured look in the crease. I used a matte light brown in my crease, and a matte champagne shade over my entire eyelid. Add a line of black eyeliner to your upper lash-line, creating a cat-eye flick at the end. The end result is a very Marilyn Monroe inspired look. Most bombshell beauties back in that era kept their eye makeup along the same lines as this, with slight variations.
To modernize the look, I went with a flaming hot fuchsia pink lipstick. I used Party Parrot by MAC Cosmetics, which was limited edition, but any really bright fuchsia pink lipstick works here. I love how insanely bright and commanding this lipstick is. Every time I wear it, I get compliments! Typical pin-up makeup calls for classic red lips that have a three-dimensional look to them, usually achieved by using a few different shades of matte red lipstick. Since this is 2012, I went with a shiny hot pink instead.
The finished look is a modern take on the classic pin-up “bombshell” makeup.
