When I originally saw reviews and swatches of the MAC Cosmetics Pressed Pigments I was horrified by most of the reviews. Believe it or not, almost every single blogger and reviewer said these were essentially an awful glittery mess. Now, I’m a huge glitter lover, and I think glitter on the eyelid is really fun and youthful, so I was pretty surprised to see that no one liked these. I decided finally to give Spot Lit a chance because it looked really gorgeous in pictures and I swatched it for myself and fell in love. Inside I’ve got my full review and a look using this pressed pigment!
I bought this product so that I could use it on my eyes. The fallout is virtually non-existent. I read on a lot of other blogs that the fallout in this product is awful, but I didn’t experience much, if any, with Spot Lit. You can apply this dry or wet, and wetting your brush ahead of time will intensify the shimmer in it and also keep any fallout of the product at bay.
I actually intentionally bought Spot Lit knowing that it had a bit of an orange/coral color to it so that it would bring out the blue-green in my eyes. I would say that if you’re purchasing these for use as a shimmer/glitter eye product, you can buy absolutely any shade without worry of your skin tone. If you’re purchasing so that you can use it to highlight your skin, either on your face or body, then I would use the complexion chart on the product page. It comes in as light as W10 and as dark as NW55, so there is something for everyone.
I simply used a wet brush, dipped it into the product, and patted it over my entire eyelid up to the crease. I applied black eyeliner to my upper lash-line, flicking it up at the end for a cat-eye look. I kept the rest of the eye bare so that the “wet” look of the eyeshadow could really stand out and be the focus. It’s an incredibly beautiful product when used correctly!
Overall: If you’re not a fan of shimmer or glitter, you’ll want to steer away from these. If you plan to use these for eyeshadow, they are wonderful when applied wet and with a patting motion. I would keep away from using these as a facial highlighter because of the high-intensity shimmer and glitter, unless you’re going for a theatrical or high-fashion look. These would be wonderful when applied to the body as a highlighter, such as the collarbones, shoulders, or legs.
