I recently swatched the Revlon Colorstay “Inspired” Palette, which the always gorgeous Olivia Wilde is wearing in the brand new Revlon advertisements. I decided to use the palette to show you how it looks on the eyelids, as well as give you an idea of how to wear such a bright, colorful palette of eye colors. Just because it’s the winter doesn’t mean you can’t wear colorful eyelids…in fact, it is often said that color can brighten up your mood! I ended up creating a mermaid-esque look with this palette, showcasing the teal, light green, and purplish-blue in a way that reminds me of the sea. To see how to achieve this look step-by-step, as well as plenty of photographs,
Revlon “Inspired” Palette Numbered Guide:
- Start with a base. Any eyeshadow primer will work, or even a bit of concealer on the eyelids. This will ensure that the bright colors will really pop and stay crease-resistant.
- Apply SHADE #1 (sky blue) to your entire eyelid. You want to use a patting motion instead of a rubbing motion when applying this so that the color is really concentrated and gets packed down onto the lid.
- Apply SHADE #2 (light green) to your inner eyes. Be generous with this light green shade as you apply it to the inner corners of your eyes, both upper and lower. This will create a blended, gradient-like effect with the sky blue shade on your eyelid, and also add a beautiful pop of light to that area of your eye.
- Apply SHADE #3 (purplish-dark blue) to the crease of your eyelid. A small brush such as a pencil brush will work best for this step so that you can really concentrate this color into the crease of your eyelid and just slightly above. Be careful not to get this shade on the outer third of your eye, and take it across the length of the entire crease. Use a fluffy blending brush to blend out the edges, but be careful not to blend away too much of the actual pigmentation of the eyeshadow.
- Apply SHADE #3 (purplish-dark blue) to your lower lash line. Using the same pencil brush, apply the dark shade onto your bottom lash line for added drama.
- Apply SHADE #4 (pearl-white) to your brow-bone. This will blend everything out and give you a gorgeous highlight to your brow-bone area.
- Apply black eyeliner to your bottom water line, as well as your tight-line (inner upper lash line). This step is optional, but I feel the black eyeliner really adds a dramatic contrast to the bright and light colors of the eye. It will also help bring out your eye color even more. Curl your lashes and apply lots of mascara. I used the new Maybelline Illegal Lengths Mascara, and I absolutely LOVE it!
The Finished Look:
The overall look is reminiscent of the sea in an exotic, dazzling location. The colors really brighten my mood around this time of year when there is such a focus on keeping makeup looks dark and neutral.
