I previously photographed and swatched the new Maybelline limited edition EyeStudio palettes, showing the gorgeous pigmentation they put down. I already showed my makeup look using “Green With Fashion,” and I was excited to do a look using “Strut It Suede,” because I get a lot of requests for a neutral, wearable eye makeup look. What I love about this the most is that this is my “everyday” eye makeup look. I typically gravitate towards this neutral, toned-down smokey look using beige and browns, and I always swipe flesh-toned eyeliner onto my bottom water-line to wake my eyes up. To see how to get this look, and plenty more photographs,
Above is the palette I am using, labeled with numbers as a guide:
- Apply an eye primer so your eyeshadow looks vibrant and does not crease. Apply shade #1 over your entire eyelid up to your crease. Also, focus this shade into the inner corners of your eye.
- Apply shade #2 into the crease of your eye making a windshield-wiper motion. This shade will help create definition to your eye socket. I applied this shade with a light hand, sweeping and blending it out naturally.
- Apply shade #3 to the outer third of your eyelid and blend upward into the outer crease. This is going to ever-so-slightly smoke the look out. Apply this shade to the bottom lash line ONLY (avoid the water-line).
- Apply shade #1 to your brow-bone to blend everything out.
- Apply a white or flesh-toned eyeliner to the bottom water-line of your eyes. My personal favorite is Stila’s Kajal Liner in “Topaz.” Doing this step will make your eyes look larger, brighter, and more awake.
- Curl your lashes and apply black mascara.
Notice how the flesh-toned eyeliner opens my eye rather than closing it like a dark eyeliner would. Fantastic for when you don’t get a ton of sleep!
This look is incredibly wearable and neutral, and would be a perfect makeup look for school, a professional environment such as work or a job interview, and even for going out at night. You could easily turn this look into a nighttime look by adding red or bright pink lipstick!
Overall, the shades in this palette will really help open your eye and make it look luminous and bright. Skipping dark eyeliner on the water-line here is key, and the neutral colors of the palette make you look young and fresh.
