When Sally Hansen first came out with their initial HD Collection, I was skeptical about it being a gimmick, until I saw a swatch of someone wearing “Blu.” Last year, I ended up collecting every single polish from the regular HD Collection because while the colors were not overly unique, the formula had an extremely unique “glow” to it. The polishes really glow and shine on your nails unlike any other polish I own. When I saw the Sally Hansen Ultra HD Collection, and how unique the polish colors were this time around, I knew I had to snag it up. Driving to four different drugstores, and eventually digging through a stock box that was not out yet, I came home with this collection (Sorry, local Walgreens!). To see full swatches of this collection,
- Byte is a fuchsia, purple-pink with tons of purple, hot pink, and blue micro-glitter in it. Depending on the angle at which the light hits this, it can reflect purple or blue. Very unique duo-chrome and shimmer effect to this polish.
- DVD is a blue with loads of silver, purple, and lighter blue micro-glitter in it. It reflects purple in the sunlight, and looks extremely shimmery and glittery without looking chunky. Definitely an eye-catcher.
- Hue is a gorgeous metallic, light yellow with green micro-glitter in it. The duo-chrome effect to this polish was very difficult to capture on camera, but this polish flashes light green a lot. Also, it applied beautifully for a yellow polish!
- Laser is a bright blue with a ton of bright purple micro-glitter in it, making the polish not only reflect purple, but look more on the purple side. Words cannot describe how much I love Laser…this was definitely my personal favorite. It is similar to “Blu,” from the original HD Collection, but beautified with this very bright, noticeable purple micro-glitter. Stunning!
- LCD is a sheer bubblegum pink with bluish, purple micro-glitter in it. I was not expecting to love this shade, and this shade is probably my second favorite from the collection. The polish flashes this gorgeous purple-blue, metallic shade in certain light.
- Resolution is a metallic green with hints of blue in it. It also has very fine silver glitter in it that makes the metallic effect that much prettier. I absolutely love my green polishes, and this one is no exception. This reminds me of a mermaid!
- Spectrum is a gorgeous metallic sky blue with purple and blue micro-glitter. When this one shines, it reminds me of the bright sunshine reflecting onto the clearest of blue seas.
- Wavelength is a bright coral shade, and is considerably more demure than the rest of the polishes in this collection. This shade is still gorgeous, however, with fantastic shimmer to it. I was expecting to dislike this shade because it seemed so “normal” in the bottle, but it looks gorgeous on your nails. It was also one of the most opaque shades in the collection in terms of pigmentation.
The Sally Hansen ULTRA HD Collection applies extremely similar to the regular HD Collection: sheer, with buildable coverage. Most of what you see above is two or three coats of nail polish. The micro-glitter and shimmer in these polishes makes the HD formula shine and reflect even more than it already did, and really appeals to my love of unique nail polish shades. The ultimate measure of how “cool” these polishes are? My husband said he thought this collection was extremely “neat looking,” which is about the closest I will get to an approval of my nail polish addiction!
The Sally Hansen ULTRA HD Collection retails for $5.99 a bottle, and is currently being sold at local drugstores now. Be sure to scoop these up before they go out of stock. These babies are sure to sell like hot cakes this spring and summer!

I read on Scrangie’s blog that Orly “Lunar Eclipse” is a dupe of Laser.

It is! Although you can still find these Ultra HD’s in the drugstores…I think I just saw them reduced to 50% at a few of my local Walgreens. Maybe trying to push a new collection in?

I saw them clearance at Walgreens too, I thought it was just the older(?) ones though? Ya know the less duochromey, sparkley ones? If they’re all clearance I’m soo getting LCD! Friggin GORGEOUS!
