Lookbook Review: Own Plump Hydration Lip Therapy, “Chili Pepper”

Own Products are completely natural, with skin-care, lip-care, and anti-aging products in their line. Plump Hydration Lip Therapy is a shiny, sheer rollerball lip gloss with major lip plumping properties. I was mostly enticed by the packaging when I was in Ulta, and the fact that I had never seen the brand before. Also, these came in 3 different intensities: True Mint, Cinnamon Bark, and Chili Pepper. Naturally, being up for the challenge, I went straight for the Chili Pepper intensity. To see photographs, swatches, and before/after pictures,

Chili Pepper, the highest intensity of lip plumping this company makes, is a medium berry, sheer lip gloss. The applicator is a rollerball, which is not only fun and reminds me of my childhood, but also way more sanitary than dipping your fingers into a lip product. The actual packaging is really fun looking, going from the width of a marker to the width of a pencil. From the Own website:

Fuller lips come across as looking younger, so instantly plump yours up while helping to firm, smooth, and hydrate them over time. Be forewarned, this high-intensity flavor is va-va-va-volumizing, and has a sexy gold-mica sheen to boot.

This lip gloss does have a slight bit of color to it. Since my lips are naturally a rosy/berry color, this didn’t really amp my lip color up much, other than adding major shine. The burn on this was not as intense as I was expecting. Since I’ve used every lip plumper under the sun, I was expecting to really feel the burn. It took about ten full minutes for it to even start tingling, and even then it felt minor, and was burning somewhat. This overall scent smells spicy…like a combination between cinnamon and chili. The scent is not super strong, which I like, and it didn’t cause any irritation around the corners of my lips like some other lip plumpers do. So did it plump my lips?

Yes! I noticed a difference. It’s not exactly going to look like I got lip injections, but it definitely made my upper and lower lip look bee-stung and more full. The slight micro-shimmer also helps make your lips look bigger as well. I can see myself using this under my regular lipstick so I can have plumper lips with more color. The effect lasted a full hour on me.

Own Plump Hydration Lip Therapy is available in 3 intensities, as well as a day and nighttime lip treatment. They also sell all natural skin-care and anti-aging products. Visit their website, or find their products at Ulta stores nationwide. You can also use a coupon that was sent to me for $3 off, which can be used at Ulta, Duane Reade, and Pharmaca stores!
