L’oreal Infallible Lipstick in Perennial Pink is a gorgeous light pink shade that will flatter many different skin tones. This pink has a slight blue-tone to it, making your teeth appear whiter, but because it is not chalky or super light pink, it’s extremely flattering. L’oreal Infallible Lipstick is similar to the other L’oreal Infallible products…they claim this lipstick will wear for over ten hours. Many long-wearing products either fail to live up to their “long-wear” expectations, or come with other various unpleasant qualities, like stickiness, or flakiness. Does this product live up to it’s name?
The packaging on this lipstick is truly gorgeous, and definitely makes the product feel luxurious. Remember the DiorAddict High Shine Lipsticks? The packaging alone makes those drool-worthy, and this lipstick almost feels like a drugstore version of the Dior lipsticks, with its metallic silver base, and its attention to detail by stamping the L’oreal name into the lipstick.
Perennial Pink was the shade that caught my eye in the display box. It’s a flattering light pink shade, but has a hint of blue in it, which I didn’t notice until I took it home and swatched it. The slight blue undertones make it perfect for making your teeth look super white, which you will see as you read on. Unlike other light pink shades with blue undertones we’ve seen recently (Pink Friday lipstick, Viva Glam Gaga), this lipstick is not as light in color or chalky, making it a very flattering option for someone who likes to wear pink on their lips a lot. It’s a nice neutral pink that looks natural during the daytime, and can be paired with many different makeup looks, from smokey eyes, to just mascara.
See how the slight blue/purple undertones make my smile look super white and bright? Score!
As for the long-wearing formula, which is why most women buy this product, this lipstick will definitely not budge. It has the exact same texture as the rest of the L’oreal Infallible products. It feels a bit sticky on the lips after you apply it, and it definitely feels a little drying. It is extremely important to prep and prime your lips before using this type of lipstick, or you will end up highlighting any areas of dryness or flakes. I’ve been receiving a lot of questions as to what it means to “prep and prime” your lips, and there is a Beauty Gala video tutorial coming up on how to do this. I got a solid eight hours of wear out of this lipstick, and my lips still had that gorgeous pink shade to them when all was said and done. The L’oreal Infallible lip colours usually come with a conditioning balm, to be applied after you apply the lipstick, which helps alleviate any stickiness or dryness from the formula. I highly recommend using whatever lip balm you have at home (Chapstick works, even), and applying it on top of this lipstick lightly. It will help seal in the color, get rid of dryness, and create a barrier in between your lips and slight sticky feeling.
Bottom Line: Overall, I am someone who hates to reapply lipstick over and over again, so I can live through the slight sticky feeling to get many hours of color of my lips. If you are sensitive to stickiness or prone to dry lips, I suggest sealing this lipstick with a lip balm, or skipping it altogether.
L’oreal Infallible Lipstick is available at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide. Each lipstick retails for $8.49 a pop.
