Lookbook: New York Color Smokey Blues Eyeshadow Quad

New York Color eyeshadow palettes are one of the best kept beauty bargain secrets. They put down fantastic, opaque color, last all day, and even come with a guide to help you understand how and where to apply each shade. We here at Beauty Gala are no stranger to New York Color’s eyeshadow quad’s, as we’ve reviewed and done looks for several of them now. I recently saw a new display called “IndividualEyes,” which contained an eyeshadow quad for each eye color. A couple of the eye color palettes looked like re-releases of previous palettes already in the collection, but more on that inside. I chose this palette because not only is it one I have never seen before, but the shades are perfectly neutral, and can be worn by anyone. Though I do have blue peepers, I know neutral eyeshadow colors seem to be the most popular in general. To see swatches and more photographs,

"Smokey Blues" Palette

Each palette comes with four eyeshadow shades, a cream eyeshadow primer, and a cream highlighter. The four eyeshadow shades work together to create a look of dimension on your eyelids. For those who are beginners, or just aren’t sure where to apply the colors, New York Color always has a fabulous, informative diagram on the back of their palettes to help you out.

The Smokey Blues palette comes with four shades: a light champagne, a gray-beige, a medium brown with copper shimmer, and a brown-toned plum/mauve. Each of these shades has a light shimmery quality to them.

The insert inside the packaging makes it incredibly easy to identify which shades go where, using the diagram on the back of the palette. Of course, you can use each color individually, and play with this palette any way you want, but I love that New York Color makes it so easy for beauty lovers to get the hang of how to use color on their eyes.

Each shade was soft, as usual for New York Color, and applied well. The only shade I had a little trouble with was the brownish-toned plum (the darkest shade). It was a little chalky on my skin, but once I applied an eyeshadow primer underneath, it wasn’t as chalky, and it was smooth. The combination of colors work together to enhance blue eyes, and make them stand out more. Of course, every single eye color can wear each of the palettes in this collection, regardless of eye color.

As for the re-releases? I noticed the green eyes was a palette already in the regular collection. I wasn’t entirely sure about the brown eyes palette, but regardless, it only helps make these palettes more widely available.

New York Color Eyeshadow Quad’s are available at drugstores and mass retailers nationwide (Target), and retail for less than $4 each. I highly recommend checking out New York Color’s products and displays if you see them out in drugstores, as they have really been innovative and fun in their collections lately. Their products have great value with low price tags and good quality.
