Milani Crystal Eyez Eyeshadow is marketed as a “smooth and lasting eye shadow with glimmers and pearls that deliver a sparkling finish on the lids.” These eye-shadows have major sparkle to them, but did they live up to my expectations? To read a mini-review and see more photographs and swatches,
I typically love Milani products, and find them to be one of my favorite drugstore brands. I had very high hopes for these Crystal Eyez Eyeshadows, and while I didn’t dislike them, they were simply different than what I was expecting. These “eyeshadows” are very translucent, and don’t have much, if any, color to their base. These are more of a glimmer, shimmer, glitter top coat, so to speak, for your eyes. I can see myself adding a dab of “Lovely & Luminous” to a smokey eye at night for that extra added pop, or adding “Gorgeous & Glowing,” over top of a green eyeshadow look for added shimmer. Alone, these are nearly translucent, and look simply like a glitter gel applied to the eye. Applying these straight to my eye reminded me of being thirteen again, when glitter was very big. Just because I may be disappointed in an aspect of a product, however, does not stop me from finding use for it in some way in my beauty routine. There is definitely merit in applying Crystal Eyez over your eyeshadow for a great finish, though, especially for a special event.
Milani Crystal Eyez Eyeshadow comes in six different shades, and I am likely to go back for the shade “Stunning & Sparkly” simply because it is a nude, flesh toned color, would look more neutral, and would also be perfect for applying a pop of shimmer to your lips.
Milani Crystal Eyez Eyeshadow retails for $6.49 at your local drugstore, or you can browse and purchase online by clicking the product image below:

I’m guessing that the little display swatches in CVS are layered applications with black shadows underneath.. What do you think?
Rebecca says
They are definitely layered over eyeshadows in the advertisements. They still look pretty this way, but it is an added extra step!

I saw these at CVS and they looked gorgeous, gotta love anything with holo! But would the “gel”ness of it smudge powder eyeshadow if you were to layer them?
Rebecca says
It actually works pretty well with powder eyeshadow…if I want to add a touch of holographic glitter, I just pat this onto the eyelid lightly…usually use my ring finger tip (less pressure than if you were using a brush) and it doesn’t seem to smudge for me!
