Love her or hate her, Nicki Minaj has been tearing through the music, fashion, and beauty scene lately. Known for her fearless, confident, cartoon-like looks, her newest venture, a collaboration with MAC Cosmetics, is a lipstick named after her first album, “Pink Friday.” This lipstick was limited edition, and sold for 4 Friday’s in a row from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Apparently, Nicki Minaj has some die-hard fans, because this lipstick was gone within minutes each Friday at midnight. If you find yourself wanting to get your hands on this lipstick however, there is some great news for you…MAC is bringing it back because it sold so well. Just like Nicki Minaj herself, this lipstick shade is not for the faint of heart. To see swatches,
Pink Friday is a satin finished, bright creamy pink lipstick. Nicki Minaj says that her favorite MAC lipstick was “Pink Nouveau” for years, and she finally is able to put a spin on her own shade with them. This lipstick has a semi-matte finish, with no shimmer at all, and it holds a blue-undertone to it. The blue undertones are quite strong in this lipstick, even veering on hints of purple. The color itself is bright, pale, and somewhat chalky, and very opaque. This shade is not an easy one to pull off, but when done correctly, it can completely brighten your face and your look. The closest MAC dupe that I own for “Pink Friday” is “Saint Germain.”
Since Pink Friday has such an opaque, chalky texture, I highly recommend that your lips are in tip-top shape. Make sure to prep your lips before application by exfoliating and moisturizing, as this lipstick will highlight chapped lips or imperfections. I also feel that this lipstick will flatter cool skin tones best, because of the very strong blue undertones in this lipstick. This is not to say that warmer skin cannot pull off this shade, but more on that in a bit…
The blue undertones clash with the olive in my complexion, but in order to make this wearable, I simply apply some clear gloss on my lips, and then lightly apply Pink Friday over it. The result is less dramatic, with less of a blue undertone, and would look fabulous when paired with a smokey eye.
The gloss helps to tone down some of the intensity of the chalkiness, and make it a more flattering shade. Personally, I am not one to abide by beauty “rules,” so if you love this shade, then by all means rock it! Nicki Minaj doesn’t apologize for her style, and neither should you.
MAC Cosmetics Nicki Minaj Lipstick in “Pink Friday” is currently not available since it was limited edition, however, MAC has announced that they will be producing more of this lipstick, making it readily available to beauty lovers. Stay tuned to MAC Cosmetics Online for this lipstick if you are interested!
