MAC Cosmetics recently released “Digi-Dazzle” Lipsticks, a limited edition collection of glittery, shiny lipsticks in bold and unpredictable colors. I was extremely curious about these lipsticks because I love MAC Dazzleglass lip gloss, but sometimes, you just want the formula and finish of a lipstick instead. These lipsticks have a similar effect as the Dazzleglass lip gloss, but with a lipstick finish, making them bold but sophisticated. To see swatches of “Hot Sass,” “Naughty You,” and “Liquid Lurex,”
I had a very difficult time choosing which Digi-Dazzle Lipsticks I wanted after swatching them at the MAC Counter. Let’s just say – I wanted one of every single one! I eventually narrowed it down to three that I thought would be the most wearable for me throughout all seasons, and I chose “Liquid Lurex,” “Naughty You,” and “Hot Sass.”
Using the camera flash, you can really see just how glittery and sparkly these lipsticks are. These lipsticks look more demure in low-lighting, and much more flashy in direct sunlight or bright lighting.
Naughty You is a hot neon berry pink with tons of dazzle and sparkle. I absolutely love this shade because while it is bright, it’s also extremely flattering. If I am wearing a hot pink lipstick, I typically plan the rest of my makeup and look around it because it is the star of the show. Naughty You has the ability to be sheer, and it can be layered for dramatic hot pink color, or applied lightly for a pretty berry pink wash of color.
Liquid Lurex is a tarnished golden shade with bronze, pink, and opal glitter and shimmer. This one was the surprise of the group, because initially the color intimidated me. It has a golden, almost olive tone to it, and I dismissed it at first. Then, I swatched it, and realized what a gorgeous shade this is both alone, and layered over other lipsticks. The shade is sheer and golden, and adds a gorgeous nude sparkle to your lips. Also, layered over another lip color, Liquid Lurex looks gorgeous.
Hot Sass is a bright, fiery golden orange with bronze and pink glitter. When I saw this lip swatch on the MAC website, I thought it was going to be much more unwearable than it is. When I swatched it in person, I loved the sheer coral orange shimmer this left on my lips. Hot Sass is a gorgeous shade for the coming fall season.
As far as the formula and wear on this lipstick, I would say that the formula is fantastic, but the wear is average. The formula is smooth, rich, and creamy, and for a lipstick that has micro-glitter in it, it has very little gritty texture to it. You can feel the glitter ever so slightly, but it was so unnoticeable to me compared with other lipsticks that contain glitter in them. The wear on this lipstick is very average, and it will come off after 2-3 hours of wear. One thing you must be careful about with the Digi-Dazzle’s versus regular lipsticks is that the glitter can get messy if you apply the lipstick without care. To avoid having glitter around your mouth area, be sure to apply and remove with precision. I don’t foresee the glitter being a messy problem unless you tend to wipe or smear your mouth area often (i.e, kissing, wiping your mouth with a napkin).
Hands down, the best thing about these lipsticks is the finish. It is quite sheer, but buildable, allowing you to layer the color for dramatic pigmentation, or apply lightly for sheer, natural color. The glittery finish is also gorgeously fun and feels a lot more “mature” on your lips in lipstick form, rather than wearing a glitter gloss. These lipsticks will inevitably be a hit or miss with beauty lovers, depending on your overall lip color and formula preference.
MAC Cosmetics Digi-Dazzle Lipsticks are limited edition, available in thirteen gorgeous shades, and retail for $14.50 each at your local MAC Counter, or online at MAC Cosmetics Online.

I dig Naughty You, but I’m not in love with the other ones. I generally prefer pinks and neutrals, so I’m not really into Hot Sass…and Liquid Lurex is too neutral for me. There’s no pink or red in it at all, and I need that. But of course, all three look good on you (as usual). 🙂

I so agree, Erin! These lipsticks appeal differently to so many people. The other women looking at them with me at the counter had so many varying opinions on their favorite shades!

Mmm I don’t know about these. To be honest I think they look a bit cheap. They look great when swatched but not so great on the lips. Obviously there is nothing wrong with your lips you always look great in everything!

It’s perfectly okay, Annabella – these have been very “hit or miss” with beauty lovers…I love the feedback on here, both good and bad, anytime!

I totally agree, si! I was just wearing one of these the other day and I was thinking the same thing. I would have gone back for more shades, now 🙂
