Every once in awhile I stumble upon a really great makeup product by accident. I happened to be shopping for a specific lipstick and noticed that these new Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee’s were out. Now I’m typically very adverse to any type of liquid or cream blush because I have very oily skin, especially in the spring and summer. I took a big risk on this product and luckily for me, it was a great risk. The product is all I’ve been using on my cheeks for the past three weeks straight. Not only is the color subtle and luminous, but the product stays put for hours upon hours, even on my very oily skin. It’s such a natural looking product that it melts into your skin, making you look flushed and healthy.
Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee is infused with coconut water for a very hydrating cream/gel hybrid. The product is a bit squishy and has a gel-like texture, but it glides on like a cream stain when you dip your fingers or a makeup brush into it. It contains argan oil, yet it’s not oily or greasy whatsoever. The brand promises up to fourteen hours of wear, but I’ve worn this blush for even longer and it doesn’t budge until you take your makeup off. I also like that this is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. It didn’t irritate my skin or cause any kind of breakouts at all.
The color I bought is Pink Escape, which looks much more red inside the actual packaging. The color is a warm hot pink shade once you dip a brush into it. It’s quite pigmented and a little goes a long way. I dip my blush brush right into the container and swirl the product on my cheeks. Just one dip puts down more than enough of a stain on my cheeks.
The product is really natural looking which is what I love about it most. It really melts into your skin and looks like you are naturally flushed. “Pink Escape” is a really flattering color for all skin tones and will look slightly different on everyone. In a pinch, this product would also work great as a lip stain too.
Overall, I ended up being extremely pleased with this blush. I was not expecting to like it as much as I do. It’s very long-lasting, hydrating, luminous, and natural looking. It puts down excellent color in just a swipe. The only thing I would caution you about is that the actual color of the blush is different than the product in the packaging. You may want to go to your local Sephora store and test these out or check out swatches online. “Pink Escape” looks very red inside the packaging but is actually a hot pink. The Sephora website has accurate shade descriptions, as well.
The Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee is available at Sephora stores nationwide as well as online at Sephora’s website. Each Cheek Gelee retails for $22.00 USD. There are five other shades available, as well.
